π³ Oak Ridges Lions Club Legacy Forest – A Living Gift to Our Community π³
On June 14, 2025, the Oak Ridges Lions Club proudly kicked off one of the most impactful initiatives in our club’s history – the creation of the Oak Ridges Lions Club Legacy Forest in the Oak Ridges Corridor Conservation Reserve.
Led and organized by our valued partners at the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) as part of their Community Stewardship Program, our club members worked side by side with dedicated young volunteers from the Jaffari Community Centre Youth Committee in Vaughan to plant 250 native trees and shrubs.
This project is a cornerstone of our 75th anniversary celebrations honouring our past members service, celebrating how our current members contribute meaningful service to our future generation, and a lasting gift to our community. Our club has proudly contributed $12,500 this year toward the purchase and planting of trees, which, according to the TRCA, will collectively absorb approximately 5.5 metric tonnes of COβ annually.
The benefits of this project extend far beyond today. The Oak Ridges Lions Club Legacy Forest will help:
π³ Combat climate change
π³ Improve local air quality
π³ Support Richmond Hill’s recognition as one of the Tree Cities of the World
π³ Engage youth and community members in meaningful environmental stewardship
And this is just the beginning! Additional tree planting events are scheduled for Fall 2025 and will continue in the years to come.
We are incredibly proud to contribute to the health and sustainability of our community and to foster partnerships that engage and inspire future generations.
Thank you to the TRCA, the Jaffari Youth Committee, our Lions members, our local municipal and provincal representatives, and all who support this growing legacy. Together, we are making a lasting difference. π³
π± Celebrating 75 Years of Service to Our Community π±
On May 3rd, the Oak Ridges Lions Club hosted our 25th Annual Community Clean Up. With the help of over 100 amazing volunteers, including enthusiastic students, the dedicated Phoenix Baseball Team, and caring members of the community, we collected 2.5 tons of litter from parks, streets, and green spaces around Oak Ridges.
Our partners at Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) joined us once again, providing expertise and hands-on help, while our fellow Lions from the Aurora and Richvale Lions Clubs worked shoulder to shoulder with us. This teamwork truly embodies the spirit of Lions: serving together to build stronger, healthier communities.
A special thank you to our event sponsors, whose support helped us provide snacks and a BBQ lunch for our hardworking volunteers: Tim Hortons Oak Ridges, Joe & Val's No Frills, Aurora and KIND Snacks.
We are also grateful to Académie de la Moraine Elementary School for allowing us to use their facility to host this important event.
We were honoured to be joined by Councillor Carol Davidson, MPP Michael Parsa, and Mayor David West, who took time from their busy schedules to support our efforts and encourage our volunteers.
The day wrapped up with a well-earned BBQ of thanks – a chance to relax, connect, and celebrate the difference we made together.
We are so grateful to everyone who came out, rolled up their sleeves, and made an impact. The Oak Ridges Lions Club is proud to serve this community, and proud of the friendships and partnerships that make events like this possible.
Thank you for helping us keep Oak Ridges beautiful!

π³ Supporting Our Environment: $2000 Donation to TRCA for Tree Plantings π³
We are thrilled to announce that the Oak Ridges Lions Club has made a $2000 donation to the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) to fund tree plantings in Phyllis Rawlinson Park. This contribution will support the purchase and care of plant materials, organizing planting events, and maintaining the site.
We take great pride in our partnership with TRCA and our shared commitment to preserving and enhancing the environment on the Oak Ridges Moraine. Together, we are making a tangible impact on our local ecosystem and fostering a greener future for our community.
We invite you to join us at our next environmental event and be part of this important work. Stay tuned for updates on our website and social media channels.
Thank you for helping us serve our environment and our community! π±π
