Bringing Joy to Pediatric Oncology Patients: $2000 Donation for New PS5 and Games. 🩺 🎮

The Oak Ridges Lions Club is proud to announce a $2000 donation to Southlake’s Pediatric Oncology Department. This donation will fund the purchase of new PS5 consoles and games for the young patients, offering them a chance to "get away from it all" while receiving treatments.

Childhood cancer remains a significant challenge in Canada. Each year, approximately 1,500 children are diagnosed with cancer, and it remains the leading cause of disease-related death in Canadian children. In these difficult times, small joys and distractions, like playing a video game, can provide a much-needed escape and bring happiness to children undergoing treatment.

Donations like these play a crucial role in bringing hope and moments of joy to young patients. By providing entertainment and a break from the rigors of their medical journey, we help to improve their overall well-being and support their emotional health.

We are immensely proud to contribute to Southlake’s efforts in making a positive impact on the lives of these children. Thank you for supporting our mission to serve and bring happiness to our community. Together, we are making a difference.   🩺 ❤️🎮

In a heartwarming display of community generosity and compassion, our recent Childhood Cancer Toy Drive has exceeded all expectations, collecting an incredible 230 toys and $300 in cash.

This event would not have been possible without the incredible support of our community, local businesses like Code Ninjas stores, the Royal Bank, and the steadfast support of our esteemed mayor, councillor, and local MP. Let's celebrate this collective effort and express our heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed.

We extend our sincere appreciation to our community for rallying together and generously contributing to the Childhood Cancer Toy Drive. Your kindness and willingness to give have made a significant impact on the lives of young cancer patients and their families. Thank you for demonstrating the true spirit of compassion and empathy.

We extend a special thank you to Code Ninjas stores in Aurora, Richmond Hill and East Gwillimbury for their invaluable support. By collecting toy donations at their stores, we were able to reach more of our community and bolster our toy drive donations, making a positive difference in the lives of those battling childhood cancer. We are deeply grateful for their partnership in this meaningful endeavor.

We express our heartfelt thanks to the Royal Bank, Oakridges for collaborating with us on this important cause. Their involvement has not only helped us collect more toys but has also underscored the importance of community collaboration in making a positive impact on the lives of children fighting cancer.

We extend our gratitude to Mayor David West, Councillor Carol Davidson, and MP Leah Taylor Roy for their unwavering support and encouragement throughout the Childhood Cancer Toy Drive. Their endorsement and active involvement in this initiative have greatly contributed to its success. We appreciate their dedication to making our community a better place.

A special note of appreciation goes out to the Toronto Hummingbird Lions Club for heartwarming contribution to our Childhood Cancer Toy Drive.  We extend our deepest gratitude for their efforts in collecting toys at their August 29th community event at Lake Wilcox. Thank you, Hummingbird Lions Club, for exemplifying the true spirit of community and making a positive impact in the lives of children battling cancer. Your kindness has touched our hearts and made a meaningful difference.

The overwhelming success of the Childhood Cancer Toy Drive, resulting in 230 toys and $300 in cash, highlights the power of a compassionate community. We are immensely grateful to everyone who contributed, including Code Ninjas stores, the Royal Bank, our mayor, councillor, and local MP. Every two minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer.

“Your child has cancer.” No parent is ever prepared to hear these four gutwrenching words. Yet each year, an estimated 300,000 children worldwide are dealt a devastating cancer diagnosis . The emotional, physical, and financial tolls families suffer begin the moment those words are uttered. Lives shattered in the span of a sentence.

February 2023 - Toy Donation on International Childhood Cancer Day

February is a month that can use a bit of sunshine, and we are proud to say we brightened the day of some of the children who come for treatments at Southlake POGO (Paediatric Oncology Group of Ontario).

For February 15th, we delivered a cart full of toys and craft materials to help pass the time for these special patients. We watched the faces of the staff lift as we entered.  They know in their hearts and see each day, how much these types of donations make a difference for the children.

Thank you to all of you who have made donations to the Oak Ridges Lions Club!  You help us make it happen.

Watch for news of another Childhood Cancer event coming in September, when we once again, bring smiles to faces at Southlake!
