Youth Humanitarian
Do you want to help us spread joy and make a meaningful impact here at home?
We at the Oak Ridges Lions Club are focused on doing meaningful service around the world and very importantly, right here at home in Oak Ridges and Richmond Hill. We have 7 “pillars” of service (Childhood Cancer, Diabetes, Environment, Humanitarian, Hunger, Vision and Youth) that we focus on, but we don’t stop there. There are many ways we assist our community! We endeavour to organize many events through the year to reach our goal of 10 acts of service annually.
If you have any ideas on how we can assist our community, if you can donate funds, services or time, if you’d like to find out more about the Lions Club or if you know of students who are in need of community service hours for high school, we would LOVE to hear from you!
Check out "Connecting the Community" podcast for more about our events and us!
Please reach out to either Lion Kathrine Mabley or Lion Walter Haluza (see our “Contact Us” page) for questions and details!
This year we are proud to say we are:
"Recipients of the City of Richmond Hill Community and Cultural Grant Program".
Thank You for an Incredible Year – 75 Years of Service and Beyond
As we close out an extraordinary year, the Oak Ridges Lions Club would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who made our 75th Anniversary year such a tremendous success. This milestone not only celebrates the incredible achievements of the past year but honours the dedication and service of all the Lions who have come before us over the last 75 years. Their commitment has laid the foundation for the strong, vibrant, and impactful club we are today.
We are deeply grateful to our fellow Lions team members, our neighbouring clubs, the Lions of District A-16, our community partners, and the many residents, dignitaries, and supporters who have walked alongside us this year. Your encouragement, collaboration, and participation have been essential in helping us raise awareness, foster new initiatives, and grow our presence in the Oak Ridges community. Together, we have achieved meaningful impact and positioned our club for a strong, sustainable future.
This year’s many successes — from our record-setting community clean-up, to the launch of our Legacy Forest project, to our ongoing partnership efforts in support of Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides — reflect the power of teamwork and the spirit of service that defines our club. As we look to the future, we are excited to welcome new members and grow our club by reaching out to diverse community groups, residents, and organizations who share our passion for making a difference.
Thank you to all who have supported us — whether through volunteering, attending events, sponsoring our efforts, or simply cheering us on. The Oak Ridges Lions Club is proud to continue serving with purpose, compassion, and friendship. We can’t wait to see what we’ll accomplish together in the years to come.
Back in 1917 a Chicago businessman named Melvin Jones convinced his then business club of men that they should better their communities, and the world, and Lions Clubs were born. By 1920, they had taken the group international by chartering a club in nearby Windsor Ontario, and the birth of our Canadian history began.
Since 1920 Lions Clubs have spread all over Canada with 1,600 clubs and more than 37,000 members today. Oak Ridges Lions Club is proud to say that we have been a member of Lions Clubs International since March 14, 1950, when men like Jack Blyth decided we could serve our local community and promote the principals of good citizenship. We take an active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of Northern Richmond Hill. We believe in uniting residents through friendship, good fellowship and mutual understanding, and empowering volunteers to serve their communities, meeting humanitarian needs, and encouraging peace and international understanding. We plan service projects that are unique to our community and surrounding areas as identified by partnering with local leaders and organizations.
In its 75 years, this club has helped establish the King City Lions Club, organized and hosted the annual Oak Ridges Lions Club Family Fair, seniors lunches, skate-a-thons, countless BBQ’s for community events and schools, tested the vision of thousands of young students in Oak Ridges, sponsored hundreds of local teams, helped purchase and train guide dogs, built floats for and participated in parades, planted hundreds of trees, cleaned thousands of pounds of litter, and donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to over a hundred local and international groups, all while having fun and encouraging friendship!
