Grand Island Lions Club to Hold Annual White Cane Drive August 21–22 The Grand Island Lions Club will hold its annual White Cane Drive on Friday and Saturday, August 21 and 22, inviting the community to support one of the club's longest-standing fundraising traditions. Volunteers will be accepting donations at Tops Friendly Markets on Grand Island Boulevard throughout both days. In addition, Lions members will be greeting motorists during the Friday morning commute at the intersections of Grand Island Boulevard and Long Road and Stony Point Road and Staley Road. The White Cane Drive is more than a fundraiser—it is a symbol of the Lions' unwavering commitment to serving those in need. Since 1925, the white cane has represented independence and mobility for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. Today, the annual drive helps Lions continue their mission of improving lives both locally and around the world. For nearly seventy years, funds raised through the White Cane Drive support a wide range of humanitarian programs, including vision and hearing initiatives, assistance for children and families, community service projects, disaster relief efforts, and programs that improve the quality of life for those in need. Every dollar donated is used exclusively for humanitarian purposes. The Grand Island Lions have historically maximized the impact of every donation by leveraging local contributions with grants and partnerships, allowing them to fund larger projects, the newest being an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) that is now available at Veterans Park for public emergencies. The Lions are also securing additional funding for an automated CPR machine for the Grand Island Fire Company, equipment that can deliver consistent, high-quality chest compressions during life-saving emergencies and improve patient outcomes. The Grand Island Lions Club encourages everyone to stop by one of the donation locations on August 21 or 22 and help continue a tradition of service that has benefited communities for generations.
