Wirral Lions provide financial and practical help to individuals and to a range of local, national and international charities.

We raise money by means of a Christmas sleigh, bedding plant sales, helping to run a Food Festival, a sponsored walk, collections, raffles and other events.

We give money and practical help to people in the community - the disabled, the elderly and others in need, including:

  • trips out and holidays for needy children
  • help to special schools, hospices and other organisations
  • transport for disabled people
  • Christmas hampers for those in need
  • support for youth groups and youth theatres
  • financial help for special needs in the community
  • we are actively involved in the Message in a Bottle scheme, which is available FREE to people in our area and provides an immediate source of medical and other relevant information to emergency services.

Wirral Lions enjoy themselves too - by organising a programme of social events throughout the year, including:

  • an annual charter dinner
  • a Christmas party and a handover social
  • other evenings out to restaurants and members homes and to events such as bowling, treasure hunts and special interest trips
  • theatre trips
  • an annual weekend away in the UK or abroad

We meet once a month for a business meeting and each member is assigned to a group (fundraising, welfare or social), which also meets once a month. One social event is normally arranged each month.

Our bedding plant sale takes place every Spring and raises a useful sum for our Charity Account. Click on the link below to see sample photographs of the varieties available. Contact us at 0845 833 5837 if you are not already a plant customer. Remember we deliver the plants to your door at the right time (when the risk of frost has almost certainly passed). You will see that we offer some ready-made items, including hanging baskets and begonia "balls" for those who prefer something ready to put out straight away.

Wirral Lions Bedding Plants

A team of walkers from Wirral Lions (and a few friends!) take part in a charity walk in Spring each year. We choose a local charity to support every year and we are grateful to all our friends and supporters, who sponsor our team and ensure we raise much needed funds for local causes. In 2018 we did the walk in aid of Blood Bikes, who deliver blood to hospitals when urgently needed. This was adopted as a Zone Project by local Lions Clubs and Wirral Lions donated £2,000 towards the purchase and equipping of a new motorcycle for this excellent scheme.

Every year we take Santa out on his sleigh in the period before Christmas, at a number of supermarket sites and, in the evenings, around the houses. Last year we raised almost £8,000 by our Christmas collection, which will be given to a variety of local charities and other good causes. Our grateful thanks go to Tesco, Aldi and Claremont Farm for allowing us to collect on their premises and, most of all, to the public in Wirral for giving so generously.
