During these difficult times Wirral Lions were not able to bring Father Christmas to make his usual early visit to the district during December. This made a huge difference to the amount we were able to raise for good causes but, fortunately, some friends and supporters gave donations via our Just Giving page and we are really grateful for that. If you would like to support what we do, you can still give through our Just Giving page at:

Alternatively, you can support us by contacting 0345 833 5837 and there are various other ways to donate. Thank you!

We hope that, as 2021 goes on, we will be able to resume our fundraising activities, starting with our bedding plant sale in Spring. Please contact us by phone or email if you would like further details. We also hope to do our charity sponsored walk early in the year and we will confirm details of that, and the charity we will support, in due course.

Who are Wirral Lions?

  • We are a group of people who try to make a difference in Wirral by helping those less fortunate than ourselves.
  • We raise money (averaging £15,000 a year) for charity, with our Christmas sleigh, bedding plant sales, charity walks, collections and raffles.
  • We support a wide range of local charities and help people in need across Wirral and, as a part of Lions Clubs International, we also help some causes further afield, both in this country and abroad.
  • We give practical help where we can, including our “Message in a Bottle” scheme for vulnerable people and by the recycling of spectacles for the Third World.
  • As well as helping others, we enjoy many social events and develop strong lasting friendships.

What area do we cover?

We cover the western and central Wirral area, from Hoylake to Heswall, south to Neston and across to Bebington and Bromborough, and our members live in all parts of the Wirral.

Does it cost a lot to be a member?

It doesn't cost a lot to be a member and we are always pleased to hear from prospective new members - men and women - who want to give something back to the community and enjoy fun and fellowship in the process.

Where and when do we meet?

Our usual club meeting is on the first Tuesday in the month at The Glegg Arms, Heswall at 7.45 pm. During the coronavirus pandemic, we are meeting on-line at present so please contact the secretary, David, (648 9157) if you would like any further details.

The coronavirus pandemic has meant that all of our fundraising activities fpr 2020 were put on hold for the present but we have been meeting on line via Zoom and making donations from our existing funds to a range of causes, as you can see below.

Donations made during coronavirus lockdown:

Wirral Hospice St. John’s - £3,500

Marie Curie Cancer Care - £499

Helplink Heswall - £300

YMCA (homeless facilities) - £300

Laptop for disabled girl - £250

Wirral Women and Children’s Aid (Refuge) - 2 x £500 = £1,000

Stick ‘n’ Step (disabled children) - £300

Our bedding plant sale did not take place this year and we postponed our usual charity walk. We completed the walk (complying with Covid 19 restrictions!) at the end of September and we raised £1,300 for the Alder Hey Premature Baby Unit, towards the purchase of a special heated cot for premature babies (a Zone project among the Lions Clubs of the Wirral and Chester).

We organise regular social events as well as fund-raising, although our activities are on hold for the moment. Please contact us if you'd like to know more about what we do.

If you shop on-line you could support your local community with no cost to yourself using a website called "The Giving Machine" -

and nominating Wirral Lions Charitable Trust Fund as the cause you want to support. Various suppliers support this site, including John Lewis, M&S, Next, Debenhams and many others. The supplier gives a small percentage of the value of every order (the amount varies) to the nominated charity and it costs you nothing. Just through our own members so far, we have raised a useful extra amount for our funds. If you would like to help in this way and require further information, please contact us. If you use Smile.Amazon, you can nominate Wirral Lions Charitable Trust Fund as your cause and our charity account will receive a donation from that when you shop.

Many of our supporters subscribe to our 150 Club, a monthly raffle with cash prizes. It only costs £1.00 per month to join the draw and it makes a useful amount towards our Charitable Trust Fund, which goes to various good causes. Please contact us if you would like to join.

You can help Wirral Lions' spectacle recycling scheme by donating those old glasses you no longer need. See the details in the Spectacle Recycling page opposite for where you can leave them. Thank you for your support!
