MARCH PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE  by President Vicki Satalino

Well it feels like winter has finally come to Tehachapi. We have had a warm dry winter. They predict rain/snow and we get drizzle and little snow flurries. Hopefully March/April will bring showers so we can have some May flowers and not more drought. We don’t want the freezing cold to make the buds drop on our fruit trees.
Spring can be a little slow for our Lions Club. This will give us some time to rest before our busy times begin. This does not mean that we are idle. We still keep with some of our smaller projects. For many years our Lions Club has been going to all the first grade classes in Tehachapi around President’s Day and we give them a presentation about the flag and every student received their own flag to take home with them. Two of our Lions showed the students how to fold a flag and they were wearing white gloves. One of my favorite projects is the High School’s Student Speakers Contest and this year’s subject was “Integrity and Civility Play What Role in Today’s Society?” and the winner was Deanna Alvarado. The contest was held at our meeting on February 15. Deanna will go on to compete at the next level which is the Zone. The winning contestant at the end of the competitions will receive more than $20,000.00 toward a school scholarship. On February 27th we helped with the Houchin Blood Drive, which is held every two months on Tuesday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. On March 1 at our regular meeting we honored B.S.E. Rents for their continued support for donating the man lift for our annual apple drop. By B.S.E. donating the man lift instead of charging us their regular fee it enables us to give much more to our charity. Our apple drop fundraiser helps us fund two projects our Christmas for Senior’s program and we also donated to the Lions diabetes foundation.
Our Lion Clubs will be having our annual Desert Region meeting in Ridgecrest where we get together with other desert clubs, share ideas and enjoy our friendships that have grown over the years.

Blessings to All of You,
Your, Tehachapi Lions Club President
Vicki Satalino
