TEHACHAPI LIONS CLUB'S STUDENT SPEAKER CONTEST

The Tehachapi Lions Club invites high school age students to participate in the 81st annual Student Speaker Contest on February 15.  The contest provides an opportunity for competitive public speaking among high school students on a subject of vital interest to the contestants and to the American people as a whole.  This year's topic is:  "Integrity and Civility Play What Role in Today's Society?"  The contest is administered and funded by the Lions Fourth District Student Speakers Foundation, Inc., a California nonprofit corporation.  This year, the Foundation will provide scholarships totaling $103,500.  From this amount, each of the 15 district winners will receive a $4,500 scholarship, each of the four area winners will receive an additional $6,500 scholarship and the winner of the Multiple District Four Contest will receive an additional $10,000 scholarship.  Each district winner will also have competed in contests at the Club, Zone and Region levels, winning cash awards at each level.  This club contest is open to all students who reside within or attend school located within Tehachapi, including charter schools, home schooled, or independent study students in grades 9, 10, 11, and 12.  Rules and information concerning the contest can be found at:  md4lions.org.  For more information, contact Eva at (661)823-8516.
