Thanksgiving Boxes

At Thanksgiving we are able to provide a Thanksgiving meals with extra goodies to a few families that may not be able to afford to have a Holiday meal. We partner with one of a local churches for the families that could use our love and support. The members from our club choose the items that they wish to donate to the boxes. The club then will complete the items so that each box has all things necessary for dinner. We gather all the items, box it up and we deliver them to the families the week of Thanksgiving.

Highway Cleanup

For the North Pole Lions, service is more than just a motto; it's a way of life. With a deep-seated commitment to their community and the environment they call home, the Lions have made it their mission to ensure that the highways that traverse their Arctic landscape remain clean and free of debris. Armed with gloves, bags, and an unwavering spirit of determination, they set out to remove litter and debris from Buzby to Lawerence and restoring the natural beauty of their surroundings for all to enjoy. By removing litter and debris from the roadside, they help to prevent harm to animals, as well as mitigate the risk of pollution to delicate Arctic ecosystems.

the North Pole Lions invite members of their community and beyond to join them in their mission to keep their highways clean and pristine. Whether through volunteering for cleanup efforts, spreading awareness about the importance of environmental stewardship, or simply disposing of litter responsibly, everyone can play a part in protecting our planet for future generations. Together, with the North Pole Lions and other organizations leading the way, we can ensure that the highways remain symbols of natural beauty and environmental stewardship for years to come.

Eyeglass Recycling

The North Pole Lions are proud to lead the charge in supporting the Aurora Borealis Lions Eyeglass Recycling & Vision Center (ABLERC)—a beacon of hope for vision care in North Pole, Alaska, and beyond. With help from fellow Lions across Multiple District 49, we’ve been working since 2008 to make sure everyone—no matter their financial situation—has access to the gift of sight.

Here’s how it works: Generous donors send us their used eyeglasses, and our volunteers jump into action.  Each pair gets a thorough cleaning, and using lensometer machines, we determine the exact prescription. After that, the glasses are bagged with their prescription labeled and stored in bins by prescription strength. This ensures we can quickly match individuals in Interior Alaska with glasses that meet their specific needs.

But our efforts don’t stop there! Many of the eyeglasses make their way to mission projects around the world, where they bring clear vision and new opportunities to communities in need. Sometimes, these missions request as many as 2,000 pairs (or more)—and thanks to our amazing volunteers, we make sure every request is fulfilled!

Volunteers typically gather at ABLERC on the second and third Saturdays of each month, but we also coordinate with other groups who step up to help at other times. With so many prescriptions to process, every pair of hands makes a big difference.

We’re always working to keep our stock healthy—because you never know whose life will change with the perfect pair of glasses. Interested in joining us? Come lend a hand and be a part of something truly eye-opening! 👓
