Collecting & Recycling Aluminum Cans
Notice

Due to an email written to The Villages District Manager by Bill Schikora, District 2 Supervisor, the Lake Sumter Lions Club will no longer be collecting aluminum cans at the postal stations. Apparently, government property can not be used for fundraising unless everyone has equal access. Mr Schikora had complained previously about Lions recycling of cans.
So this ends the collecting and recycling of cans by the Lake Sumter Lions as a fundraiser.

Selling Trash Cans from the Defunked Recycling Frundraiser

Lions Ed, Kevin, Glenn, and Larry sold trash cans that were formerly used to collect and recycle aluminum cans, as part of the Lions fundraiser.

Lions ReSell-It Day
March 7, 2020
Lake Sumter Lions held their fifth annual Re-Sell It Day on Saturday, March 7 at the Lake Miona Rec Center.  Buyers had a variety of pre-owned items from which to choose from: jewelry, books, DVDs, crafts, linens, garden tools, collectibles, and readers eyeglasses.
A very profitable day and a great day of teamwork.

Lions Chinese Auction
Feb 8. 2020

Thanks goes to Lions Doris, John, and Bunny and their committee for an extremely successful (and fun!) fundraiser.  We had a great crowd of over 200 people who attended our 5th Chinese Auction at the Eisenhower Rec Center.  Attendees bought raffle tickets for over 60 gift baskets ranging in value from $50 to over $100, as well as tickets for 50/50 drawings.  Lions also served a meal of grilled hamburgers, chips, cookies and soda.

Lions Pancake Breakfast @ Applebee's

Lake Sumter Lions held their first Lions Pancake Breakfast and it was a success.  Sponsored by the TB Financial Group, the pancake breakfast was held at Applebees in The Villages.  Thanks go to Lion John (aka Walter) who organized and led this very successful new fundraiser.

The Villages Daily Sun newspaper published a photo of the Lions Pancake Breakfast.

2019-2020 White Cane Days

Lake Sumter Lions feel fortunate to live in a community that is so generous to the Lions.  The Club conducts White Cane Days two times a year at Wal-Mart and four Publix grocery stores located in/around The Villages.  Members collect $$ from the public, most of who know about the good works of Lions.  Lions are assisted by dog handlers for Southeastern Guide Dog (SEGD) with their Puppies-in-Training.

All monies collected go to the Club's sight and diabetes testing programs, to include the Southeastern Guide Dogs organization. Thanks goes to Chairman Lion Bob who organizes these fundraisers.

With Fall 2019 White Cane Days, Lions were assisted by our SEGD puppy "Keller" which the Lake Sumter Lions sponsored.  With the Spring 2020 White Cane Days, Lions were again assisted by SEGD puppies-in-training.

Collecting & Recycling Aluminum Cans

At least 3 days a week, Lake Sumter Lions collect the aluminum cans in large black bags and load them on the Lions truck. Collection barrels are located at postal stations north of Route 466 in The Villages.  Once the Lions truck is full, Lions drive the truck to a nearby recycling center. This project not only raises funds for Lions activities but also keeps our community "green" by collecting and recycling aluminum cans.  Thanks goes to Lion Kevin who is the Chairman of this fundraiser.  And thanks to those who deposit their empty cans in the red collection barrels.

Aluminum Can Chairman Kevin sent a call out for members to repair the wooden cab on the truck.  Several Lions showed up and repairs were done (with some monkeying around!) at the home of Lions Gary and Sharon.  Lunch was provided afterwards by Lion Sharon and Gary.

A year later, Lions were again called upon to repair the cab of the "Can Truck."

Thanks for your support.
