Meetings

We organise a variety of social events over the year when partners, family and friends are encouraged to join us.  The club has a particular speciality!:

At Knutsford we do like our rhymes,
To liven up our social times
At Charter and 4Ps
And handover parties
We delight with performers of rhymes!

The following are a selection of our activities in recent years:

HANDOVER LUNCH

In July we have an informal lunch to mark the handover to our new Club President.

Photo shows 2019/20 President Peter with supporting cast after Handover at Knutsford Heritage Centre July 2019.

Preparation of food is shared between members to keep down the cost.

Rhymers are common here as well - an example is the Handover Verses in July 2016 and incoming President Peter kept up the tradition in  2019! Peter's Poem July 2019

CHARTER MEAL

In May we organise a meal to celebrate the anniversary of the official formation of our Club in May 1976.   This is our only formal event (menu cards, seating plan, speeches etc.!) - but speeches are kept to a minimum!!  Until 2015 the meal was followed with some music and dancing, but in May 2015 we decided to change to a more casual Charter lunch at High Legh Park Golf Club.  Friends and members of other local Lions Clubs are invited to attend.

In recent years our visiting District Governors (or representatives) joined the rhyming spirit of our club by reading some of their own specially prepared verses!  We look forward to some more verses in the future - always good to raise the spirits.

WALKS

We regularly arrange a gentle walk/amble followed by lunch at a nearby Pub.  A few members just come along for the lunch!  Walks have included Lower Peover, Tatton Park, Northwich Woodlands (Anderton area), Dunham Massey, Bluebell Walk at Arley, Daffodil Walk at Whitegate and railway walk in Chelford.

VISITS

Visits have included RAF Cosford, Halfpenny Green Vineyard, Moorcroft Pottery, The Hat Museum Stockport, Lower Moss Wood (tour followed by tea), Wedgwood, Catalyst Museum, Ordsall Hall & War Museum and Lymm Safety Central (Fire & Rescue Service).

In 2014 we had a very interesting Group Visit to the Lewis Carroll Centre/Daresbury Church - and donned our maddest hats for the Tea Party!    For more pictures and information see our Facebook page (7 May 2014).

THEATRE TRIPS

Groups of members/friends periodically attend local theatre performances at - Garrick Altrincham, CHADS, Wilmslow Green Room, Gawsorth Hall etc.

'VERSE AND WORSE' EVENINGS

This is one of our speciality events which gives an opportunity for up and coming rhymers (or poets?) to read out a selection of rhymes (or poems?).  Some write their own, some read out works by others, some just come to applaud the "talent"!  It all makes for a very light-hearted evening with supper included.  Non-members encouraged to participate!

At our November 2013 "Verse & Even Worse" evening one of our newest members read an excellent poem that she had written about her experiences with our Club - "An Ode to Knutsford Lions"

LIONS CENTENARY RECEPTION 2018

On Wednesday 28 February 2018 H.R.H. The Countess of Wessex hosted a Reception at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the Centenary of the formation of Lions Clubs International.     This was a Multiple District Event and only one representative was allowed to attend from each Club.  Our Club President wrote a "poem" about his visit which he read out in his best Stanley Holloway style at our Fish and Chip Supper social on 14 March (it also made the April District Gazette!).
