MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE

For 20 years Ilminster and District Lions have been running the message in a bottle scheme.  This simple but effective scheme provides vulnerable people living on their own with vital life saving information in a common place where it can easily be found in the event of an emergency – the fridge!

Two labels, one on the inside of the front door and the other on the fridge, alerts the emergency services that the information is available.  The information stored in a readily identifiable container could be a life saver as it includes medical information and allergies.

MESSAGE IN YOUR WALLET has been added to the scheme, helping anyone on medication or having conditions that first responders should be aware of.

For more information, please contact your local surgery, health centre or chemist who may refer you to us.

ENVIRONMENTAL POSTER COMPETITION

We were delighted to be able to collaboratively organise an environment poster competition with Herne View Primary School, Ilminster.  Art Lead, Amber Eaton, supported the pupils in school.   The competition encouraged students to express their ideas on protecting the planet through vibrant and thought-provoking artwork, it not only fostered creativity but also inspired a deeper understanding of environmental responsibility among the young participants.

Year six pupils showcased their creativity and environmental awareness and did not make judging easy for the panel.  The children were enthusiastic about the challenge, with Maya saying, “It was a really fun opportunity. We all enjoyed taking part, even if we didn’t win. The top entries were so good!” Another student Athena added, “It was lovely to complete posters about the environment as we are the generation that can make things change for the better in the future.”

Shirley Lion President was amazed at the quality of the entries and reassured that the young people intended to do all that they could to improve the environment.
