Meetings

Lions Community Services activities can range from a donation to a school for books and/or equipment, helping to count the money the morning after Carnival Night, assisting an individual with a problem, to a large donation to a hospital for a piece of equipment. We are also frequently asked to loan a wheelchair or zimmer frame when needed. Often manpower is required, perhaps to park cars at events or running the mulled wine stall when the Christmas  Lights are switched on at the Victorian Evening. This provides us with the welcome opportunity to meet the local people who give us such great support.

Ilminster Lions would like to say a big thank you to all who contributed during 2023 to the recycling of 13,094 used spectacles, 54 used mobile phones, 39 used hearing aides plus a number of used hearing aide batteries.  Grateful thanks to the Opticians in Chard and Ilminster, St Margaret's Hospice Shop, and Medical Centres at Broadway and Ilminster.

Very grateful thanks to everyone who helped.

Every month a member collects old spectacles from:

Ilminster - Richard Stent Optometrist, St Margaret's Hospice Shop and Church View Surgery Broadway.

Chard - Steven Beswetherick Optician and Specsavers

South Petherton - South Petherton Hospital

The spectacles are boxed up and sent to Chichester Lions Club or Birmingham Lions Headquarters. Here they are sorted and graded before being sent to developing countries where they are dispensed at Lions sponsored eye clinics.

If you have any spectacles which you no longer need, please pass them in to one of the collecting points above.

Hearing Aid Batteries

Used Hearing Aids and Hearing Aid Batteries are accepted for recycling.  Please place them in the spectacle collection boxes found at Medical Centres, Ilminster St Margaret's Hospice Shop and Opticians.
