The Darlington Lions Club supports a number of sight & hearing programs. We have an eyeglass collection box in the Darlington Post Office on Main Street. Unbroken glasses with lenses are collected and sent to national sorting centers for subsequent distribution to third world countries.
The club also provides assistance to those in need to acquire eye exams and obtain prescription glasses. An application package for those that can demonstrate financial need can be requested and returned to the club mailbox, P.O. Box 393, Darlington, MD 21034. We also offer a similar program for providing hearing aids to those with financial need.
The Lions of Darlington also periodicly conduct vision and hearing screenings. We have also purchased a special screening camera to test for lazy eye in children age six and under.
From our fundraising activities we provide monetary donations to the following sight and hearing assistance programs:
- Lions Vision Research Foundation
- Leader Dog (guide dog training)
- Lions Association for Sight & Hearing of MD (LASH)
- Radio Reading Network
- MD School for the Blind
