2024 JUDE'S JOY: Jude is 2 years old and has Cerebral Palsy. He's an active child who loves swimming, swinging, and books. Jude received his first walker at the age of 2 as he was not yet able to stand or walk independently. His mom, Julie Grant, said now that Jude had a walker, they were excited to witness his newly founded independence and freedom to direct his own learning through play. Unfortunately, this did not happen as they experienced barriers at all local playgrounds due to the use of wood chips and sand surfacing. Jude was unable to maueuver his walker on these surfaces. The family quickly learned that Jude needed rubber surfaced playgrounds in order to use his walk with ease. They were shocked to learn that the closest fully accessible playground for walker and wheelchair users was 64km away.
Jude, along with many other children with developmental issues, would benefit greatly with the fully accessible playground. It would give these children the experience of independence while making new friendships. It would be a place where people of all abilities can participate without being relegated to the sidelines.
The cost for this new fully Inclusive playground, located at the Ennismore Waterfront Park, 1085 Ennis Road, Ennismore, Ontario, would be $250,000.00.
