Fall Charity Breakfast — November 20

The Brookfield Lions Club thanks you for your previous participation in our annual Charity Fall Breakfast and hopes that you will be able to support our fundraiser again this year.

This year, the Charity Fall Breakfast will be held virtually on Friday, November 20th starting at 8 AM. Zoom log-in information will be provided via email for those who participate.

The Breakfast proceeds will support the Brookfield Lions’ Charities, which include Guiding Eyes for the Blind, Connecticut Lions Eye Research, Brookfield Social Services & Food Pantry, Emergency Utility Fund, Brookfield Youth Groups, the Diabetes Research Foundation, and many more. We are asking you to support these Lions initiatives by inviting your past Breakfast guests and other friends to also join the meeting  It is our hope that each of your guests will make a donation of $50.00 or more to Brookfield Lions Charities so that we can continue to support our many causes.

The keynote speaker this year will be Mark Lyon, Lions Clubs International Director. In this most challenging year, the Brookfield Lions will highlight the incredible story of our Lions Clubs International Foundation (“LCIF”). For over 50 years, LCIF has dedicated its energies to increasing the ability of Lions everywhere to support the communities in which we serve.  Mark will briefly cover the current focus areas of LCIF, which include: Diabetes, Vision, Hunger, Environment, Childhood Cancer, Youth, Disaster Relief, and Humanitarian causes.

We are very pleased to also have Amy Dixon as our guest speaker.  Amy Dixon is a 12 year member of the Lions Club who is blind and also a graduate of Brookfield High School. Since losing her sight, Amy became a professional triathlete and is now on the Road to Tokyo despite a rare autoimmune disease. She is a member of the USA Paratriathlon National Team and now serves as a patient advocate and President of the Glaucoma Eyes international non-profit. She is the reigning Aquathlon World Champion, 7-time ITU Gold Medalist, current US National Champion triathlete, USA Paracycling Time Trial National Champion, and is ranked 6th in the world in the Paralympic International Rankings.

Please encourage your friends and associates to join us virtually on Friday, November 20th. Checks (payable to the Brookfield Lions Charities, Inc.) can be mailed to: David J. Moissonnier, Treasurer, Brookfield Lions Club, P.O. Box 660, Brookfield, CT  06804, or credit cards will be a] .   Click Donate Now, and then select “2020 Charity Fall Breakfast”.  In the event that you are unable to attend our virtual event this year, any donation for this most worthy cause would be greatly appreciated.  All donations are completely tax deductible.

Blood Drive — October 7th

We will be sponsoring a Blood Drive on Wednesday, October 7 from 1:30-6:30 p.m. at the St. Joseph School gym. Whole blood is urgently needed and there are appointment times available if you are able to donate. Safety protocols are being observed.

One or two volunteers are needed to help from 4:00-6:30 p.m.  We also need individually wrapped sandwiches and cookies. We will not send out a Survey Monkey.  Please email me at jkettunen@earthlink.net if you are able to help.

LCIF Coordinator — October 10, 11

The Lions Club International Foundation continually needs financial support to continue to provide assistance and grants worldwide for disaster relief, COVID assistance, food insecurities as well as so many other needs.

Also, please consider attending one or both of the events being held on Saturday October 10th and Sunday October 11th.  Flyers had been sent out previously.  Both of these events will have all proceeds donated to LCIF.   If you should have any questions please reach out to Lyn.

Community Garden — October 24 or 25

The Community Garden is wrapping up.  I would like to schedule a fall cleanup Saturday, October 24 at 10 a.m., with a rain date of Sunday, October 25 at 10 a.m.

For those who would like to volunteer, they will need to wear a mask and bring gardening gloves, wheelbarrows, shovels, etc. to supplement what is in the shed.  Additionally, if we can get the weed wacker brigade to go up prior to cleanup day, it would help in overall completion.

38th Annual Charity Golf Outing --

Another Great Success

We wanted to extend a heartfelt "thank you" to all who participated in the 38th Annual Charity Golf Outing. Every year the Brookfield Lions Club hosts an Annual Charity Golf Tournament and this year, like all years, we had tremendous support from golfers and businesses alike.

While we had to modify the usual format due to Covid, we still had 27 golfers and numerous volunteers who were able to enjoy a beautiful course and had beautiful weather.

A special thank you goes to our 50/50 raffle winner, Harriet Wolfe, who graciously donated her winnings back to the Brookfield Lions Club's charity account.

Shred Day 2020

Thank you to the volunteers and the Brookfield Community for making Shred Day, 2020 the most successful Shred Day to-date. Because of Covid restrictions this year, our fundraising has been hampered but the outpouring of community support at this event has brought us closer to our fundraising goals

The Lions Club is the world’s largest international service organization. Members have been working tirelessly since the early part of the 20th century to help restore and improve sight and hearing to millions of people. Here in Brookfield, our members are very active in programs that increase access to eye care and hearing services for those in need.

We collect used eyeglasses, help raise guide dog puppies, and organize vision screenings. Our presence in the community is widespread - you'll find us leading youth outreach programs, organizing road races and blood drives, and championing the town's annual Memorial Day parade.

100% of funds raised by the Brookfield Lions Club are used to benefit charities and local community programs. No overhead is ever deducted. The generousity of our friends and neighbors makes these donations and other service programs possible, and we are grateful for their support.

Please explore the links on this page to learn more about our club.  Contact us to find out how to attend a local meeting or become a member. We welcome men and women who want to help their community while enjoying the fellowship of a great organization.  "We Serve" - and so can you!
