The Lions Club of Waiuku is one of the few Lions Clubs in New Zealand fortunate to have its own club rooms. The first tenders for the construction of the Waiuku Township’s railway station were invited in 1919 and in 1921 the first train carried VIPs to Patumahoe. The railway was closed in 1967.
Taken over by the Lions in 1991, Lions members repaired and restored the derelict hulk of a building into a welcoming and well-appointed facility for the Club and the Waiuku community.
The clubhouse has a well equipped kitchen, a licensed bar, comes complete with sound and projection capability, and a capacity of 80 persons for a sit-down function.
The Waiuku Lions Club lease the building from the Auckland Council and the Station is classified as a Community Hall. At present the Station has a very colourful and varied use.
