Every year in June, every Lions Club across the world (all 49,000+ of them!) reflects upon and marks a year of service and elects the new leadership team for the Lions year beginning 1st July.

During a fun-packed night on 23rd June the Club officer team was inducted and sworn in by Past Region Chairperson (and past Waiuku Lions Club President) Grant Thompson. Incoming President Allan said he was “enthusiastic to lead the Lions Club of Waiuku into what will surely be another successful year."

In many Clubs, and Waiuku Lions is one of them, the outgoing and incoming Club Presidents identify and agree support grants and donations to local causes, using funds raised during the past year.

On 23rd June, the following were announced at the Waiuku Lions Club “Change of Officers” night.

Skin Cancer Screening : $5000 to the New Zealand Lions Cancer Trust to assist with the purchase, equipping, and staffing a second screening Bus for the free skin cancer screening service.

Waiuku Food Bank - $1000 donation.

Kariaotahi Surf Life-Saving Club - $500 to “purchase”  bricks for the wall of the new Club house.

Breast Cancer - $500 to the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ

Our catering support - $500 each to the Waiuku Scouts and Waiuku College Kapa Haka Group

Leukaemia & Blood Cancer - $500 to the Leukaemia & Blood Cancer NZ

The incoming Lions officer team has a challenging year ahead, not least because of the societal changes which erode the time available for people to devote to volunteering and community service. 2025 is the 60th anniversary of the Chartering of the Lions Club of Waiuku and we are considering how we may best celebrate this significant milestone. One such proposal is to locate and dig up the time capsule buried more than 25 yrs ago, consider the items within it and what they say about those past days. We will  be creating a new 2025 time capsule for future Lions to find and dig up.
