Towanda Lions Club Scholarships

Several scholarships for local high school graduates are available through the Towanda Lions Club. The club offers two scholarships in memory of former club members who contributed to both the club and the local community.



Steve Liebenow Memorial Scholarship

The Towanda Lions Club is pleased to sponsor a $750 Steve Liebenow Memorial Scholarship in honor of Steve Liebenow, a dedicated Lions Club member, educator, and community leader who passed away in 1999. This scholarship is a one-time award and is not open for renewal. Applicants not selected in a given year may reapply if they remain undergraduate college students.

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. You must be enrolled in or planning to enroll in a Community or 4-year college or university.
  2. You must live in the Towanda area (zip code 61776) or Towanda Township.
  3. You must be a high school senior graduating this school year or currently enrolled in a skilled trades program.
  4. You must have at least a C average in your high school coursework (verified by your transcript).
  5. Your completed application must be submitted by March 15, 2025.

Application Requirements:

  • A list of high school activities and years of participation.
  • A list of community service activities and years of participation.
  • A list of employment history (paid positions).
  • A letter of application with a biographical profile (200 words or fewer).
  • Two letters of recommendation:
    • One from a teacher, counselor, or administrator.
    • One from a non-relative living within the Towanda area.

Submission Process:

Complete and submit your online application by the official deadline posted on the Towanda Lions Club website. Alternatively, mail your application form, high school transcript, and letters of recommendation by the scholarship deadline to:

Prepare your documents:

You'll need to upload the following:

  • Your high school transcript.
  • Two letters of recommendation.
  • Your skilled trades class schedule for this fall, if available.

The Towanda Lions Club Scholarship Committee will review all submissions and select one scholarship recipient. All applicants will be notified by mail of the committee’s decision. The winning recipient must provide a copy of their fall semester class schedule from their college/university before the scholarship award is disbursed.

Towanda Lions Club Memorial Skilled Trades Scholarship

The Towanda Lions Club is proud to offer a $750 scholarship in memory of its members who have passed away since the club's founding in 1975. This scholarship is available to students pursuing a career in a skilled trades program, which includes fields such as carpentry, cosmetology, dental assisting, electrician work, heavy equipment operation, HVAC, machining, masonry, mechanics, plumbing, printing, and welding.

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. You must be enrolled in or planning to enroll in a skilled trades program.
  2. You must live in the Towanda area (zip code 61776) or Towanda Township.
  3. You must be a high school senior graduating this school year or currently enrolled in a skilled trades program.
  4. You must have at least a C average in your high school coursework (verified by your transcript).
  5. Your completed application must be submitted by March 15, 2025.

This is a one-time scholarship; however, if you are not selected one year, you may reapply in future years as long as you are still pursuing an undergraduate program in the trades.

In addition, the the local Lions Internations District offers undergraduate scholarships for students entering, or in the process of completing, a degree which leads to working in the field of special education including but not limited to education of children with vision and/or hearing impairments.
