The Towanda Lions Club, Towanda IL, is a group committed to using our time, energy, and compassion to improve lives in our town.

National service is focused on eye health,
Local service is focused on the needs of our community (those less fortunate, elementary school, library, fire department and veterans).

If you're looking for a way to get involved, give back, form new friendships and have fun doing it - we are looking for new ideas and new members. Please consider joining our club.

About Us

The Lions Club of Towanda, Illinois was chartered on March 1, 1975, with 18 members. Today, 50 years later, the club has 21 members. Membership requires a small investment of time (one short meeting per month) and gives a great deal of satisfaction from helping others. Our main fundraisers are the Towanda 4th of July Snow Cone booth and an annual Ham and Bean dinner.

As a result of local support, the Towanda Lions Club participates in or funds projects such as the following:

Purchases eye exams and eyeglasses for persons in financial need
Sponsors the Small Change collection at the Towanda BP station
Sponsors the Towanda Lions Caring Cupboard
Sponsors scholarships for local Towanda area students
Help fund local schools, PTO, playground equipment and other needs
Sponsors highway clean-up for a 2-mile section south of Towanda
Sponsors the Easter Egg Hunt
Provides free snow cones to the Towanda students at the end of the school year and to children at the local Camp Lions Youth camp each summer
Donates to Towanda Fire Department, Towanda American Legion, Towanda Elementary School, Towanda Library, Boy Scouts, and local Women's Club
Donates to Leader Dog School for the blind
Provides free smoke alarm batteries to Senior Citizens
Help sponsor an attendee at Camp Lions
Help man the Salvation Army Kettles at Christmas Time

Our Meetings

The Towanda Lions Club meets on the second Thursday of the month at 6:30pm at the Towanda Fire Department, 203 W. Jackson St., Towanda Il 61776.
