FOUNDING OF TORONTO DOCTORS LIONS CLUB

The Club was founded by Lion DR. Bill Copeman who served as District Governor 1966-67. He was a graduate of the University of Toronto in 1947,  practiced medicine as a physician and surgeon in Sundridge, acted as a district coroner as well as a Medical Officer of Health, and managed the Underserviced Area Program for the Ontario Ministry of Health from 1969 until 1988. At his retirement to serve the communities he  formed the Doctors Lions Club. Charter Membership of the Club extended from northern Ontario to Quebec.Initially health professionals were the charter members but soon thereafter community members from all walks of life joined the club to serve communities.

We believe that the world gets better and problems get smaller when people  unite to serve their local and global community. Lions help where help is needed – in our own communities and around the world – with unmatched integrity and energy. Since 1917, Lions have strengthened communities through humanitarian projects and hands-on service. We serve neighbors who live next door and people on the other side of the world that we may never meet.
