“Greater Chicago Food Depository Check Presentation"

Battling hunger is a huge undertaking. It will require the effort of everyone, everywhere—and all Lions and Leos. Through fundraising and collective donation efforts of 22 Lions clubs in District 1-A, as well as a US$100,000 LCIF Hunger grant, the Greater Chicago Food Depository will soon be able to install blast chillers in its newly renovated facility and extend its annual prepared meals capacity by nearly 300,000. Thank you for your service through this LCIF grant, Lions. Learn more about LCIF’s Hunger Grant Program.

We are collecting clean, plastic grocery bags to participate in a Bags to Beds service project, recycling the bags into sleeping mats for the homeless. The plastic bags are made into plastic yarn, or “plarn”, and then crocheted into sleeping mats, which provide a padded and insulating surface to sleep on. To donate, either fold bags into compact squares or triangles and donate in a single bag, or create your own balls of “plarn” and donate those. Plarn can be dropped off at the Stickney-Forest View Public Library.

For the first time since the pandemic began, the Club was able to take part in the annual Chicago Lighthouse picknic again. They  prepared a delicious BBQ lunch for students and teachers in the Preschool and Children’s Development Center! Among the delicious offerings were burgers, hot dogs, cookies and fresh fruit. Here are a few of the photos from the event.

The Stickney-Forest View Lions Club continues to accept donations of prescription glasses and sunglasses. You can drop off glasses at the Stickney-Forest View Public Library using either the donation bench outside the library or using the donation box inside the library.
