Soldiers Point Lions Club gifts mobility scooter to Anna Bay resident

December 24, 2025

A SPARKLE of Christmas joy has rolled into the life of Anna Bay resident Adelaine, who has been gifted a brand-new Charger Top Gun Avenger mobility scooter thanks to the Soldiers Point Lions Club, in conjunction with the Lions NSW-ACT Sight and Health Foundation Ltd.

The much-needed scooter will allow Adelaine to move independently around her community, helping to ease the isolation she has experienced due to a lack of suitable transport and limited mobility.

Adelaine’s situation was brought to the attention of the Soldiers Point Lions Club earlier this year by Wesley Mission.

After learning about the daily challenges she faced, club members agreed that providing a specially designed mobility scooter would be a practical and meaningful way to support her health, wellbeing, and independence.

President of the rejuvenated Soldiers Point Lions Club, James Enraght-Mooney, said the scooter would open up new opportunities for Adelaine to stay socially connected.

“The new scooter will enable Adelaine to travel to local shops, cafés and community facilities, empowering her to remain active, engaged and involved in her community,” Mr Enraght-Mooney said.

With safety and comfort now assured, Adelaine can enjoy a renewed sense of freedom, and when the mood strikes, even a little ‘need for speed’ around Anna Bay.

In addition to supporting local residents, the Soldiers Point Lions Club continues to give back more broadly, recently donating $500 to the Lions District Emergency Fund to assist with local flood relief efforts.

The club has also contributed $500 to Port Harmony’s fundraiser for Ovarian Cancer Australia, an organisation that provides vital physical and emotional support to people diagnosed with the disease.

These contributions reflect the core Lions values of community service, compassion and timely support for those in need.

Anyone interested in making a difference by joining a vibrant and active Lions Club is encouraged to contact James Enraght-Mooney on 0411 259 120.

Meals on Wheels Project

Soldiers Point Lions Club members volunteer each week, packing food parcels for Meals on Wheels. Our members enjoy turning up weekly and working together, packing food for distribution.

Meals on Wheels Services support independence and quality of life for community members in need. The core values of Meals on Wheels, caring, serving and making a difference, are in line with Lions Club values. Therefore, the Lions Club is happy to continue supporting them.

Soldiers Point Lions visited Tomaree Community Hospital to inspect the Aidacare Lowline Bed for use with aged and palliative care patients. The bed is adjustable, prevents falls, pressure injuries, and enables relatives to stay overnight.

This was a collaborative project between Lions, the ALF and the community.

Bus Shelter Project

The Soldiers Point Lions Club owns and operates 21 bus shelters across the Bay area.

These shelters generate income for Lions through the sale of advertising space. This is an ongoing project. Lions members maintain the shelters and strive to keep them in reasonable condition for community use.

Most of the bus shelters were constructed in the 1980s, some by the craft of Lions members. A few years ago, the Lions Club commissioned local aerosol artist Phys Fabris to add colour and fun to the bus shelters so the community felt a sense of pride. Examples are the shelter at Salamanda Bay shops, which features a beautiful lorikeet, and the shelter near Tomaree High School, which features a kookaburra. Other shelters are laminate and others timber.
