Lions  Club,  Saharanpur was established in the  year  1970, duly   sponsored   by  Lions  Club,  Dehradun.   The   first organization  meeting  was held in October 1970  at Quality Restaurant,  Clock  Tower,  Saharanpur  in  which  Lions  of Dehradun  under the leadership of Lion C.M.Joshi (who  later became   District  Governor)  was  held    and   preliminary information  about Lionism  was given to the prospective members. 

Subsequently  Installation was conducted  by  Lion R.K.Sharma  (  who  later became  District  Governor),  then District  Cabinet Secretary, District 321B2.  Lion  Ravindra

Agrawal was installed as President and Lion Inder Bhambri  as Secretary  and Lion Sushil Agrawala  as Tail Twister of  the Club.

The  Charter of the Club was presented on 26th Dec  1070  by then DG Lion R.C. Goel at a sit down banquet dinner held  at Northern Railway Senior Institute, Saharanpur.

For fund raising, the Club started holding Lions Diwali Mela on the Sunday just before Deepawali. The first Lions  Diwali Mela  was held at Gandhi Ground, Saharanpur but subsequently it was regularly held at Company Garden, Saharanpur. It soon became  most  popular event in Saharanpur and the  elite  of Saharanpur in large number between 5,000-10,000 participated, year after year.

The first major service activity was started as "Lions  Free Eye Relief Camp" with the help of the team of Department  of Opthalmology,  PGI, Chandigarh under the guidance of  famous Eye Surgeon Dr. I.S. Jain. The Camp was held annually  every year  continuously  where eye operations between 100  -  200 were conducted.

Lions  Drawing  &  Painting  Competition  was  also  another feature since beginning for developing the talent of  School children.  It  was held at different Schools  from  time  to time every year.

Subsequently  from  the year 1981-82  another  major  annual service activity was started as "Lions Artificial Limb Camp"  where artificial limbs were provided to the handicapped  and disabled  people  by  the expert  team  of  Saket  Hospital, Chandigarh.

Lions Club, Saharanpur gave the first District Governor from the  Club when its charter member Lion Sushil  Agrawala  was elected  as District Governor, District 321B2/321C in  1983-84.  He  subsequently became Multiple  Council  Chairman  in 1984-85.  Another feature was added to the cap of  the  Club when  Lion  Sushil  Agrawala was  elected  as  International Director for the term 1990-92, representing the Lions of  54 countries of South Asia, Africa and Middle East. Lion Sushil Agrawala  was  the youngest DG  and  International  Director during his terms.

Another  achievement  of the Club was when its  member  Lion R.K.Gauba was elected as District Governor of District 321C2 for  the  year 1997-98. He also served as  Multiple  Council Secretary in the year 1998-99.

Out  of  the  20 charter members, the  Club  still  has  two charter  members  on  its  roster.  Charter  President  Lion R.K.Agrawal  is  continuing  his  membership  in  the  Club, inspite  of  having shifted to Bangalore.  PID  Lion  Sushil Agrawala is the other charter member and continuing to  give services to the Club regularly.
