63 years of service (1961 - 2024)
CHANGEOVER
In June we held the Annual Changeover of Office Bearers.
We are very pleased that Maureen Thorpe has taken on the role as President. Maureen is a very experienced Lion having been the District Governor of our neighbouring District V1-4.
We thank Past President Kevin Flynn for the last 3 years as President. Kevin's time was difficult as it was largely during the covid years - and it after effect.
Like so many individuals, businesses and organisations around the world, the events of recent years have not been kind to us as a Lions Club.
The club was chartered in 1961 (see the "Early Club History" link), but was at risk of closing. In 2017, a number of new members joined and we are back in service.
Take a look at the "Our Recent years" link to see what we have been up to since our re-launch.
If you would like join us, please contact the President or Secretary - hit the "Contact Us" link.
We might be small in number, but we are a happy band.
Here is a sample of what we typically do in our local community :-
- Lions Skin Cancer Screening van
- The "Show and Shine" car event - a great event
- Donate Care Bears to our emergency services.
- Donations to schools and junior sporting clubs
- For the 3 Primary schools in the Borough
- Letters to Santa
- Peace Poster
- Lions Eye Health Project (LEHP)
- Junior Public Speaking
- Awards to students
- We also support many Lions Clubs Foundations
Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with more than 1.4 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world.
