In September the Lions Club of Old Saybrook donated 391 pounds of food to the Shore Line Soup Kitchen and Pantry in Old Saybrook. Lion Volunteer Shoppers Trish and John Pergolizzi and Susan and Janis Esty masked up and shopped away filling shopping carts to the top for delivery to the Shoreline Pantry.

Our Motto is "Lions Serve". Fulfilling that motto Lions Kate Delaney, Susan Esty and Joanne Faraci sorted and packed over 900 eye glasses donated by the community to the Lions Club. The eye glasses were sorted into four categories:
- Cheaters (simple magnifing glasses)
- Prescription glasses
- Prescription Sun glasses
- Sun glasses (regular)
Why donate eye glasses ? Approximately 120 million people around the world (including the USA) are visually impaired and lack the funds or the facilities to obtain eye glasses. The glasses the Old Saybrook Lions Club collected are sent to a Lions Recycling Center where each pair of eye glasses is cleaned and the prescription strength is determined. The glasses are then sorted, packed and distributed to areas of the world in need. All the eye glasses collected by Lions are distributed free of charge. Many adults and children are sight impaired, the pair of glasses you donate allows a child to see and read print clearly for the first time and help adults see to read and gain employment. All this from the pair of eye glasses you donated. Please next time you see our donation box think about donating your old eye glasses.

Lions partnered with Farmers to Families:
The Old Saybrook Lions Club was notified there was a need to distribute 300 boxes of food in our area. The Lions Club accepted the challenge of organizing a food distribution in only five days with only one days notice to the public. On October 7th the Lions gave away 300 boxes of food (22 lbs in each box ) plus 200 gallons of milk to those struggling with food insecurity. This would not have been accomplished without the help of the Old Saybrook Police Department. Chief Spera and his officers set up traffic control at Saybrook Point, gave the Lions PPE, masks , hand sanitizer, gowns and face shields to protect us as we gave away the boxes. A special shout out to Sue Consoli (Old Saybrook Social Services), Stan Mingione (Director of Estuary Center of Seniors) and Amy Hollis (Shoreline Soup Kitchen and Pantry), Old Saybrook Park and Rec (use of pavilion) and Heather McNeil (Youth and Family Services) for all their help. Lastly a big thank you to the Old Saybrook Lions and friends distributing the boxes:
Lions: Kate Delaney, Janis Esty, Susan Esty, Joanne Faraci, Megan Gradzewicz, Trish Pergolizzi, Jerry Smith, David Tiezzi and Sharon Tiezzi.
Friends of Lions: Gretchen Bushnell, Rick Faraci, Jill Maconi and Madison Wollack
without everyone's help this could not have been accomplished Thank You All !
