West Norwich Lions Report  9th June 2016

In the Lion year to date (June 2016), we, as a club have raised something close to £14,000 which is remarkable.

With our Father Christmas float, thanks to Bernie Hill who lends us his pickup truck every year, on which Ernie, Simon, Keith, Barry and others all build a Santa Sleigh.  We have friends such as Sara Parfitt walking with us in all weathers for most of December.  We also had several static pitches including Roys at Bowthorpe and Homebase at Sprowston Retail Park along with BM’s at Mile Cross raising altogether over £5000.  That meant we were able donate £2500 to Norfolk and Waveney Prostate Cancer Support Group and £2500 to Meningitis Research which were my chosen charities.  We were also able to donate £250 to MacMillan Nurses using some creative accounting….

We supported several organisations, helping them boost their funds by staging Horse Racing Nights at their gatherings - on video of course. These include Eaton Cricket Club and Norwich City Powerchair Football Club amongst others, contributing to these charities enjoying excellent social gatherings while raising collectively £2500.  .

One of our biggest fund raisers is the use of the car park along Thorpe Road generously allowed by Bussey’s.  This raised about £4000 for parking during football and other events such as the Rod Stewart concert the other night at Carrow Road.

Other activities such as Car Boots, Child Tagging, stall at local fetes, Easter egg raffles etc contributed to the remainder.

As well, we have helped or donated to:-

The Pabulum Cafe.  Norwich Door to Door Transport.  Children In Need.  Mother’s and Toddler’s Group at Bowthorpe.  The Toy Library.  The Salvation Army.  Rapid Response, part of the Ambulance Service.  East Coast Truckers.. Silver Rooms. We collected and sent over 20,000 pairs of spectacles for use in developing countries through the Lions Sight First programme. We also purchased outright a specially designed tricycle for a deserving young lad called Leo at Bowthorpe, this list is not exhaustive.
