Newport and Usk Vale Lions club celebrate at the Palace for Lions Clubs International Centenary

The Lions Clubs of the British Isles are celebrating the 100th anniversary of Lions Clubs International: 100 years of proud service to our communities.

We are delighted that our Patron, HRH, The Countess of Wessex G.C.V.O. will be hosting a Reception at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday, 28th February to help Lions Clubs mark this milestone.

Jim Thompson, the club President will be representing Newport and Usk Vale Lions Club and will be joining with members from across the British Isles at the Centenary Reception together with the organisations’ charity partners.

Newport and Usk Vale Lions Club help their local community through fund-raising and organising events such as buying compression sleeves for the Lymphoedema clinic within the local Health Board, supporting the homeless through working with Street Life Sarnies in South East Wales, and providing wild flower seeds, for organisations, communities, schools and churches across the area as part of the Lions International 100yrs Legacy project.

Lions Clubs International support major projects that address diabetes, youth, the environment, hunger relief, childhood cancer and sight issues affecting communities throughout the world.

Lions Clubs International has 1.4 million members in over 200 countries, making it the largest service club organisation in the world.

Wherever you live, work or travel, you are likely to come across members of Lions clubs and the projects we support.

Lions are ordinary people who do extraordinary things to help others and support good causes.  Globally we have more volunteers in more places than any other service club organisation.  We love to help others and make things happen.

Every day Lions are having fun by organising remarkable and memorable fundraising activities.

Every year, in Europe alone, Lions Clubs members volunteer almost 6 million hours of service and raise £88 million annually to support the needs of local communities.
