Welcome to The New Germany & Area Lions Club Website

As the West Dalhousie fire continues to spread, people are very anxious to help. These are suggestions from people who have had to evacuate in the past.

To help, donate money to the Red Cross and designate it as support for the Long Lake Fire evacuees. The fire fighters have the support of the DNR and will be looked after.

Buy food vouchers or gift cards for gas, grocery stores, eating places and drug stores and give them to the Red Cross to give to evacuees.

Offer to board pets if you are able.

Offer to rescue livestock, horses if you are able.

If you have room in your house, offer to take in evacuees. Let the Red Cross know who you are and where you live.

For those facing possible evacuation:

Pack a bag with spare clothing and toiletries and put it in your vehicle.

Gather up important papers (deeds, wills, insurance documents, birth certificates, etc.) and put them in your car.

Items that you need every day should be in a carry-all by the door. You can access them when needed but they will be ready to go if you have to evacuate. Remember to have phone chargers and sleep apnea equipment, walkers, etc., near at hand.

Take pictures or videos of every room in your house.

Remember that fires can spread very quickly and you may not have time to pack, but may be told to leave immediately.

Register your family and address at the evacuation centre. The fire fighters need to know that there are no persons in the line of the fire. They are risking their lives at times, they don’t need the additional worry of trying to find you.

The members of the New Germany & Area Lions Club are monitoring the fire situation in West Dalhousie.  We wish to show our support for the heroic efforts of the fire fighters and support crews and for those who have had to leave their homes and flee the devastating fire.
We have reached out to those who are in command of firefighters' support and evacuations, and have offered our financial support.  We were assured that our financial support is not needed at this time, but we have pledged our support if needed in the future.
