LIONS CLUB OF NELSON
‘COMMUNITY GRANTS’ GUIDELINES:

Applications will only be accepted from the Lions Club of Nelson membership area which is defined as approximately the City of Nelson, North Shore, Harrop, Proctor, Balfour, Taghum and Beasley.

Funding preference will be given to those projects that will provide the most service to the greatest number of people and/or those most in need and that meet the requirements of Qualified Donee as defined by Canada Revenue Agency (see below).
Qualified Donee
Under the Income Tax Act, qualified donees are organizations that can issue official donation receipts for gifts that individuals and corporations make to them. The donees that the Lions Club of Nelson will accept are as follows:- A registered charity.
- A registered Canadian amateur athletic association
- A housing Corporation resident in Canada constituted exclusively to provide low-cost housing for the aged
- A Canadian municipality
- Be sure that your Organization’s name is exactly the same as it appears on your Revenue Canada Charitable Registration and/or Registered Canadian Amateur Athletic Association and to whom the cheque will be written.

- Completed applications must be received by November 27th, 2020
- You will be notified by in December 10th, 2020 if your application is approved (only those applicants that are approved will be notified).
- An itemized list of all estimated expenditures may also be required.
- Successful candidates may be invited to attend a Lions Club of Nelson meeting to present their project.
- Official receipt will be required when funds are received.
- If your project is accepted for funding a member of the Lions Club of Nelson may be assigned as a project liaison to periodically verify the progress of your project.
- Written notification of the completion of your project is required where applicable.
A grant application form can be obtained by e-mailing the club at grants@nelsonlions.ca or by cutting and pasting this “community grants application” into your word processor, completing it and attaching it to an e-mail to grants@nelsonlions.ca.
