Arogya Project – Health Project by Lions Club of Negombo Horizon (LCNH)

Project Chairpersons  - President Lion Janaka Abeysekara/ 2nd VP Lion Ranjith Jayaweera

Project Advisor - 1st VP Lion Christy Alwis

Negombo Horizon was invited by the Medical Superintendent (MS) at Negombo base hospital in Sri Lanka to construct a partition and to provide the necessary infrastructure to install a Bio Medical Analyzer(BMA)  which was given by the government.

This BMA was just idling in the stores for four months due to non availability of infrastructure facilities.

Our club had a board of directors meeting to evaluate the impact of the project on the society. In that board meeting we decided to raise few questions about the project and to evaluate the project. When we received the answers from the MS of the hospital we immediately took a decision to initiate the project.

Following were the facts we gathered from the answers
  1. Total cost of the project is around Rs. 150,000/=
  2. Cost of service for the needy per day is around Rs.80,000/= (Per Month Rs. 1.6million !!!!)
  3. LCNH and hospital authorities came to an agreement that they will provide us with statistics of the tests carried out using this machine in order to evaluate the progress of the project.

Our own Lion, Lion Ranjith Jayaweera who owns a construction company agreed to do the job only charging for the cost of the raw materials. Next task was to find the funds. Since the project needs to be completed as soon as possible club donated Rs. 35,000 from the club funds and club members and donors contributed the balance amount.

The good news is the BMA was installed in July 2010 and ever since it is serving the needy. Saving 1.6 million rupees per month !!!!
