Our Mission
Arunalokaya – A Bright Light (Phase I)
Project is specially designed project to assist the orphanage and less fortunate children for their education and their personal developments.
The Lions Club of Negombo Horizon considered it is a humanitarian and social duty to help these children to uplift their carrier to become good citizens.
At the end of this project sponsor will get the opportunity to see the successful life of these children and they will be rewarded with a great happiness.
As a member of the Lions Club we share our knowledge and experience to rebuild their life through this project and finally club can be achieved its own humanitarian goals.
First phase of this project offered to children of grade 9 to 11 who are reside at children’s home. These chosen children will be granted financial support for the education and workshops for the life education.
Education alone itself cannot be used to uplift a successful carrier unless it is guided through correct path of the life. Therefore it is a great task of the club members to give their utmost support and guidance throughout this project until children’s overall achievement.
In this project theme is defined as “help today for their bright tomorrow” and concept adopted “all will win” policy (Sponsor, member and student)
Every donating sponsorship will help brighten a child’s future and make them a good citizen.
Arunalokaya – Light to Life (Phase II)
This project is specially designed to assist the less fortunate children who attending schools with good academic performance. The main objective of phase II of Arunalokaya is to uplift children’s as a good citizen through identified fundamental aspects of life competencies. In order to find out these aspects committee has used experience of phase I of Arunalokaya, improved basic method of teaching techniques, lions international leadership programs and other workshops, own project experiences, various child expert advices and guidance, club members professional experience with children affaires, guideline given in the UN convention of the rights of the child and functions of all other institutes which are established for children’s welfare.
After careful consideration of these factors the committee is working towards the ultimate goal of Arunalokaya to make a child as a good citizen. In this noble cause club encourage sponsors to render their service towards this project. Given financial support directly goes to the children for their educational purpose only and all other life competencies guidance will be arranged by committee with assistance of Lions Club.
Club remains with its original policy concepts of ‘win-win-win’ policy and theme defined as “help today for their bright tomorrow”. Every donating sponsor will help to brighten a child’s future and make a good citizen – So help today to make a difference.

Sponsors – open to all well wishers who are interested in considering these students as their own children.

Selection Criteria
- No bias for cast and religion
- Child should attend to school
- Age group grade 7 to grade 9
- Children with good academic performance
- Financial status of parents
- Other extra curricular activities
- Class teachers/ principle recommendation
Sponsorship
Is available in three categories
1. Financial support – limited to Rs. 500 per month per student
This will cover school fees, school materials, tuition fees, library chargers, etc…
2. Material support – As requirement arises.
This will cover expenses of the extra curricular activates of the talented students
3. Service support – Provided by sponsor when required
Sponsor can provide his service through the project committee for seminars, lectures, workshops related to the Arunalokaya projects.
Scope of the Project
To develop child education and life competencies to be a good citizen.
Through the experience of the first phase of the Arunalokaya and research made by the committee, it was decided to develop following elements
Development of academic performance by providing financial, material and service support.
Development of life competencies through following aspects

Project Account
Separate account will be maintained at the commercial bank 2nd branch in Negombo namely Arunalokaya Project Account. In this purpose authorize officer of the account is the Project Chairman. He shall be responsible to provide account details to the committee at the end of each term (Every four months). All the account details will be published in the web site. Any inquiries regarding the account should be addressed to the project committee.
Sponsors who wish to join this project can send their donation directly to the account and should inform the project coordinators (via any convenient communication means). Immediately project coordinators will acknowledge their receipts (via e-mail). At the end of the calendar year detailed report will be provided.
At the end of the Lionistic year full detailed report will be sent to the lions club international along with other club accounts.

1. Light for Orphans – Personal development of the orphanage children.
2. Healthy Child, Healthy World – Prevention of Dengue, Nutrition program for the school children, diabetes awareness program for the young generation
3. Love the Children – Street children program through the probation office.
4. Children’s Dreams – Assisting special talented children to achieve their goals
5. Justice for the Children – Free counseling, Seminars, lectures, workshops on child abuse, slavery, trafficking, forced labour, drug addict children, children’s rights, child adoption
6. We are the World – Universal and World Children’s day programs
Evaluation of Progress
To evaluate the children performance with identified elements committee has specially designed assessment progress record. A separate record will be maintained for each child. Progress will be reviewed each term along with schools term end assessments.
