This is considered as our clubs signature project. This project is specially designed to uplift the life of the needy children. Project aims are twofold

 

Clubs objectives were finalized after many brainstorming session which provided many of our members with valuable experiences like how to manage a meeting, modern program management, total quality systems.

 

Final objective was to have a win, win, win situation for the Students, Sponsors and the club members.   

 

 

Arunalokaya Project was officially launched by Lady Lion Dr. Anoma on 21st March 2010 when our club celebrated our charter presentation.

 

  

After very careful selection process 10 students were selected from Good Shepard Convent – Nayakakanda, Watthala, Sri Lanka. These 10 students were sponsored by our club members

Lion Janaka and Lady Lion Priyanthi, Lion Thiwanka Lion Ranjith and Lady Lion Shamali, Lion Amila and Lady Lion Hashani.

 

 

Initially we discussed the requirements with the reverent sisters who are in charge of the convent and with the selected students to identify their needs. Lions club of Negombo Horozon then donated text books, past paper books, dictionaries and other stationeries to support the children’s education

 

 

 

 

To uplift the moral of the children we conducted a program at Nayakakanda Convent on June 26th, 2010 at 5.00p.m.

 

Following topics were discussed to educate the children

 

How to be Happy – By Lion Christy Alwis (Senior Lecturer of University of Moratuwa/ Sabaragamuwa)

 

How to Achieve the Academic Goals – By Mr. Wije Welgama (Lecturer of Institute of French)

 

 

How to be great through Hardships – By Lion Lady Sharmali Jayaweera (Actress / Drama director and producer)    

 

 

Master Kanishka ( Younger son of Club President) celebrated his birthday with the children. Refreshments were provided by the Lion Janaka and Lion Priyanthi. This was a memorable moment since it showed us how the next generation is motivated to share their happy moments with other children through lions clubs.

 

 

 

Another progress review meeting was held at the convent and our project committee identified that the students who are to write the G.C.E (O/L) exam are poor at mathematics. We immediately sponsored and coordinated a mathematics tutor to teach the students. We started the tutoring sessions on 6th October 2010 and completed the by-project on 9th of December 2010. We conducted 10 sessions and students and the rev. sisters who are in charge appreciated the efforts taken by the club to help the students.

 

 

We are in the process of extending the Arunalokaya project pahse II (Light to Life) to support another 15 students starting from the beginning of the Year 2011. If you are willing to brighten a child’s life you are invited to be a sponsor. Please do not hesitate to contact us …..
