Christmas Dinner and Induction

On Monday, the 11th of December the Club members all got together for a Christmas dinner at the Middle Hotel. A great night was had by all with lots of laughter and merriment. It was made extra special as we had three new members welcomed and inducted into the Club. A very big welcome to Diane, Val and Simone. We are really looking forward to your participation over the coming years. A big thank you to John Hutchinson from Strzelecki Lions who performed the honors of doing the ceremony.

Celebrations for the Lions Club of Korumburra

At last, the Lions Club of Korumburra had a reason to celebrate!

On Monday, September 27 the long-awaited Induction and Changeover Ceremony took place, albeit a more low-key event than the one originally planned. It was to be a grand event with all the new members and their families, the existing members, Lions from other local clubs and dignitaries from Zone and Region. It’s not every day that a Lions Club inducts ten new members in one ceremony! This is something very special.

Of course, Covid restrictions halted our big plans and so we adjusted them, several times. When we could get together we held a simple gathering of members only, with Rod Jackson of Mirboo North Lions officiating. Rod is Chair of the Lions Club District 201V3 Health Committee, with a particular interest in the Lions Eye Health Program. Our thanks go to Rod and Judy Jackson for happily giving their time and joining in our modest celebration. We also used this occasion to thank our out-going Secretary Jean Worthy and out-going Treasurer Athol Worthy. They have both given many years of great service to the Club and continue to be valued members. Our new office-bearers were sworn in to make up a strong executive team, under the leadership of President Ian Wilson.

The Korumburra Lions Club now has seventeen members who are keen to get on with what Lions do best – that is, help our community and enjoy the company of other Lions. If you’d like to be part of this action, or are looking for social opportunities, please get in touch on korumburralions@yahoo.com.au.

The last 4 months has been a great time for the regenerated Lions Club. Starting with a very successful BBQ and membership drive the Club attracted 10 new members – and looking for more! In conjunction with significant help from other District Club the group has banded together to develop a plan for the coming year. Unfortunately, we like so many other Community Group have had our regular meeting schedules interrupted by the pandemic. However, we are well and truly on the way with our focus now set on 3 areas and we are building plans in each area:

  1. Community Assets
    1. Rail Trail Development – Shelter, Seating, Signs – refurbish the shelter at the west entry to Korumburra
    2. Support the regeneration of the Botanic Park
  2. Community Youth
    1. Scholarship music program through the schools
    2. Eyesight screening
  3. Community Help
    1. Support for Food Bank at Milpara – twice yearly program
    2. Support for Flood Relief Lions Appeal

Time Capsule Recovered

In July 2001 the Lions Club of Korumburra buried a time capsule at Coal Creek as part of the Federation celebrations.
On a cold windy morning in early July 2021 a group of current Lions set out to find the buried treasure. After much debate and digging we found it. It looks in great shape and we are now contacting he 40 groups who deposited envelopes into the vessel. The next event being planned is the distribution of all the envelopes from the Time Capsule which the Korumburra Lions Club dug up recently, after being buried at Coal Creek for twenty years. The Capsule was opened at the Induction ceremony. Contact has been made with many of the groups and individuals who added their envelopes of memories to the Federation Time Capsule Project. If you are among these people who contributed, but have not yet been contacted, please give Ian Wilson a call on 0407-572-265. Some of these groups are:
