30 years ago a team of Professors were motivated by Lions club of Sarraki to start a club at Jnanabharathi. Thus Lions Club of Jnanabharathi came into existence on the sacred day on 2nd October 1981. P S Ranganathan the then District Governor (DG) presented the charter.
Dr. C Naganna headed the club as Charter President with the able guidance of Raju Chandrashekar as the guiding lion.We salute Prof. Naganna & Lion Vasanta Kumar for initiating Lions club of Jnanabharathi and Lions Club of Bangalore Greater.
In the year 2004 for the first time in the history of the district two clubs Lions Club Bangalore Greater & Lions Club Bangalore Jnanabharathi amalgamated to become Lions Club of Bangalore Greater Jnanabharathi
Over the years our club activities have been in the field of Sight Conservation, Education & aid to the physically handicapped. Presently we have established four permanent projects that our club can talk about.
1. Eye Camp at Banashankari (conducted @ Banashankari temple premises on 2nd Sat every month)
2. Eye Camp at Sai Mandir, Girinagar (conducted @ Sai Mandir, premises on last Sat every month)
We conduct eye screening camps every month as mentioned above and patients requiring surgery will be shifted to Netradhama Hospital for surgery.
3. Artificial Limb Project in association with Karnataka Marvadi Youth Federation provide 37 artificial limbs to poor & needy year on year.
4. Adopted School at Cottonpet (Govt. School) we support the school by providing educational aids, school uniforms and other basic needs for school operation.
Thus the light of service lit 30 years back is burning.
