In just about any home, one can find a pair of eyeglasses that are no longer being used. That same pair of eyeglasses can change another person's life. That's why the Lions started the Recycle For Sight program. Everyone can help.
If you have used eyeglasses you no longer need, you can donate them now. Lions accept prescription and reading glasses, sunglasses and plastic and metal frames. Children’s glasses are especially needed.
Glasses can be sent directly to:
Papakura Lions Club, 21 Youngs Road, Papakura 2110
Contact: Kevin Bromwich, T: (09) 298 1414, E: kevinbromwich@xtra.co.nz
or to Hillcrest Lions Club and we will arrange to pass them on:

(If you are a Glenfield local, glasses may also be dropped at the Glenfield Community Centre reception, 96 Bentley Avenue, 𝟖.𝟎𝟎𝐚𝐦-𝟏𝟏.𝟑𝟎𝐚𝐦 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲, Monday to Friday).
Glenfield's first Anzac service was organised by Honorary Hillcrest Lion Bruce Powell in 1997. Until then there had never been a dedication of the memorial and the War Memorial Hall and surrounds were in a dilapidated state. As a concerned Glenfield resident Bruce was instrumental in ensuring the memorial was revamped and a service has been arranged by him every year until his handing over the mantle in 2022, aged 104 years.
The 2023 Glenfield Anzac Parade was hosted by Hillcrest Lions Club, Glenfield Community Centre, Kaipatiki Community Facilities Trust and Kaipatiki Local Board, and entertainment was provided by the Albany Women's Choir.
As they have done every year, Hillcrest Lions provide the after-service refreshments, with the ladies trying their hands (very successfully) at making Anzac biscuits this year.

If you enjoy a little drop of wine or a soda from a can every now and then, I'm sure you're very good and put the bottle in the recycling - but what about the aluminium bottle top or the cans tab? It turns out you can recycle them AND raise money for charity.
It is only wine bottle tops with the plastic bit removed and can tabs off coke, lemonade cans etc which are accepted.

We proudly support Camp Quality - an annual camp run for children with cancer, and load up the cars with helpers and baking (usually a 5am start) to journey to Wesley College, Paerata to assist with breakfast preparation, service and clean up.
