HISTORY OF GYMPIE SOUTH LIONS CLUB
1980 The Lions Club of Gympie South was chartered on 24th April 1980 as the 1259th club in Australia. Chris Lima was the charter president. The first major project was the building of the clock in the main street of Imbil.
1982 Gympie South Lions Club ran the first bar at the original Gympie Music Muster at the Webb Brother's property, Thornside, and have been doing it ever since. Three musters were held at Thornside before the muster moved to the Amamoor State Forest.
1985 Lions Clubs became incorporated. This brought some big changes. Our first set of laws were now the "Fair Trading" and "Collections" Acts with the Lions clubs constitution coming next.
This also meant changes to meeting procedures. Board members only are now responsible by Fair Trading, so decision making is now done by the board instead of the whole club as it used to be.
1989 Our first female member. Margaret Gollschewski, transferred into our club.
1991 We hosted our first District Convention and it is still talked of as one of the best.
1999 We hosted our second District Convention. It was also a great success.
2017 Gympie hosted the 201Q4 convention.
