Vision Screening

Members of the Greentown Lions Club help to screen students in multiple grades.  This helps the school staff to identify students with vision problems that may require additional medical evaluation.  This is a project of many Lions Clubs worldwide.  The Greentown club has been screening at Eastern Howard Schools in Greentown since 2018 and has expanded to most schools, including home schoolers, in the area in cooperation with Project Access and the Russiaville Lions Club.

Annual Howard County 4H Fair
The county fair is the primary club project.  The club owns and manages the fairgrounds and all members come together to help setup, work, clean-up, and volunteer to do whatever is needed to make this a success.

Christmas Collection and Food Baskets
Each year the Greentown Lions spend a Friday afternoon and a Saturday standing at various locations around Greentown. The Lions ring bells to collect donations which are used to purchase fresh food items to be placed in Christmas Food Baskets to help the less fortunate families in our community. The baskets are delivered by Lions the Saturday before Christmas.  We are thankful for the help of the football team for delivery.

The Scouts also play a vital role with the food baskets and our community. The Scouts collect non-perishable food items from local residents. These non-perishable foods are included in the food baskets.

Liberty Day

Each year, around September 17th, the signing date of the US Constitution, the Greentown Lions Club provides an assembly program at Eastern Middle and High Schools.  Booklets containing the text of the Declaration of Independence and US Constitution are distributed to the students.  These are provided through a Lions Statewide Project.  Students participate and do a great job reading sections of the documents.   We also reviewed the 3 branches of government and the 5 rights granted by the First Amendment.  A guest speaker described how the constitution relates to their elected position.  We have had US Representatives, State Reps, Sheriff, Commissioners among the speakers.
