Who Are the Greenbank Lions?

The Greenbank Lions Club was formed in 1993 with 24 Charter members. We are part of Lions Clubs International, the world’s largest service organization, with over 1.4 million members across the globe. Major projects of Lions Clubs International are focused upon aiding people suffering from vision and hearing loss, diabetes, children cancer, hunger and environment. In addition, we provide thousands of dollars annually in immediate aid to countries where disasters such as earthquakes, typhoons or fires that have occurred. Our motto is, “We Serve”. Our actions show it.

Greenbank Lions have accomplished many good deeds for our local community. We began by coordinating a project to build a Pavilion in the Ianson Park, with the support of the Township of Scugog, the Hall & Park Board, the Greenbank United Church and the Baseball teams. As well, we collected additional pledges from local families for 25 picnic tables to go into the structure. The Lions Club also organized the purchase of more land for a new expanded parking lot at Greenbank Hall.

Since the beginning, we have worked with our local schools, giving annual hearing & vision screening tests to primary grade students, supporting the healthy lunch program and providing flags to students for Canada Day. For over a five year period Greenbank Lions worked with the Lions Clubs in Port Perry, Lions Club of Cannington, Lions Club of Blackstock and Lions Club of Sunderland to raise money for the Port Perry Community Hospital.

Money earned by our fund raisers like the e-waste and scrap metal collection ( May 2018), Spring and Fall fertilizer sales and maple syrup sales each Spring all go to support worthy Local projects. We annually support our local scholars, athletes, sports teams, churches and clubs by giving awards and bursaries. In addition, we help provide for the needy by donating to and working with Operation Scugog. In 2018, we helped and with grants raised $20,000 US to buy the three new vision screening cameras to provide free eye tests to young elementary children in Distract A-16. This is all part of the vision and hearing tests our club do in the area schools.

We continue to support Camp Kirk, Diabetes camp, Flute workshop for the Greenbank Public school, Guide dogs training as well as the Greenbank United Church Mission Team, and the Bible Camps in Seagrave and Greenbank and so much more. All the profits from our fund-raising events go back to support many worthwhile projects to make our community stronger.
