Meet the Georgetown Lions Club Members

Lion Fred Zorge 67 Years of Lion Service

Lion Fred was born in Holland in September of 2026 and was one of 10 children, five girls and five boys. His family survived the war, he married Rita in 1952 and then came to Canada to join his older brother Jon. Coming from an entrepreneurial family it didn't take long for them to start a contracting business. This brought the two young men to Georgetown to build homes in the fast-growing community.

Fred joined the Lions Club in 1959 and became an integral member of our club. He has served in the executive for many years including President and multiple terms as club secretary and tresurer. He was the driving force when the club expanded our former hall and swimming pool change rooms in 1972 using his contractor skills.

He has chaired every major committee and club projects. Not content to serve just locally he became Zone Chair and District Governor. Fred was a driving force in the establishment of the Lions Dog Guide School in Oakville.

Fred is a leader who has that rare ability to get things done while ensuring that members are valued in their volunteer work. His contribution to our club and the worldwide Lions movement have been outstanding. He truly epitomizes our promise “We Serve”

Lion President  Jeff Leach (L) presents Lion Fred with a letter from Lions International recognizing his 65 years of serivce in 2024.
