About Lions Clubs in Australia

75 years and counting. For over 75 years, Australian Lions Clubs have served our neighbours, our communities and our world. Since the first Lions club was formed in Lismore, NSW in September 1947, we have grown to be Australia’s largest service club organisation.

The two lions in our logo look back at past achievements with pride, and forward to the impact Lions will have in the future.

Lions meet the needs of local communities and the world every day because of a shared core belief - to serve their community.

Lions have a dynamic history. When founded in Australia in 1947, Lions were best known for fighting blindness. Now Lions do that and so much more - volunteering for many different kinds of community projects including caring for the environment, feeding the hungry, aiding seniors and people with a disability.

Lions award grants. Since 1968, the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) has awarded more than US$700 million in grants to support Lions humanitarian projects around the world. LCIF has been ranked the number one non-governmental organization in a study by The Financial Times.

Lions are active. We Serve - Lions are part of a global service network, doing whatever we can to help our local communities.

Why not be part of a great organisation? Join us at our next meeting...
