Eye Glasses

The Lions have boxes to collect eyeglasses for forwarding to those in need in developing countries. The boxes are at the Lions Den in Fairmont, Family Groceries in Canal Flats, and The Gas Plus in Fairmont.
The province of B.C. has the highest number of eye glass donations of all the Canadian provinces. In 2008 over 16,000 pairs were sent to eye clinics in the developing world.

Fairmont Cleanup - April 20, 2024

We had another successful cleanup this year! There were about 45 people helping out. The cleanup was followed by a chili dinner and burgers.

A big thanks to the following:

  • Columbia Valley Stewardship Society for organizing
  • Mainroad Construction for visibility vests, road signs and garbage bags
  • THE LOCAL Coffeeshop for condiments for the BBQ

Wilder Memorial Park

Wilder Memorial Park in Fairmont Hot Springs BC is a story of a park in the making. The 2-acre parcel of green land is located at the southwest end of Wills Road and is zoned for recreational use.

When completed the park will be a lasting memorial to the well-known Wilder Family who owned and developed much of the land in and around the Fairmont community, including the Fairmont Hot Springs Resort.

The Wilder Family and Fairmont Hot Springs Resort have generously donated the property to the Fairmont & District Lions Club. The club’s mandate is to be of service to the community through projects that benefit its residents. Because of that, they are a perfect choice to spearhead this project.

With that goal in mind, the club is exploring options for the development of the property and is seeking the input of local residents so that the resulting community park will reflect the needs of the community.

The Lions Club has several projects on the go.

Memorial Garden Tree Planting

In the southwest part of the park is a memorial garden to remember those we've lost. Anyone can purchase a tree in memory of a loved one.

Thank you to everyone who made the Grand Opening of the Community Gardens and Pickle Ball Courts, on July 22, 2024, such a success. Despite the highway closure, due to a wildfire, and the extreme heat we had approximately 150 people attending.

A special thank you to:

Susan Clovechok for her kind remarks.

Sophia Wawia for her speech.

Norbert Schab for his remarks and all of his great support.

Carolyn Barzilay for the decorations at the garden.

Rob Mason for bringing his BBQ and then not needing to use it. Sorry Rob!

Eileen Jonas and Brenda Klas for the cookies.

Ray Kolochuk, Dean Marusiak, Wally Black and Garth Renyk for cooking the burgers

Lynda Devenish, Marj Stewart and Wendy Cunningham for serving food.

Darlene Lockinger for cleaning the picnic tables.

Everyone who brought coolers and ice.

Most importantly, Shirley White, for all her support, hauling tables and BBQs, getting certificates and inivitations out. Don't know what we would do without her!!!

If I missed anyone, I apologize.
