Press Release... September 2024

FFG Lions Host Successful 2024 Golf Tournament

By Bert Kersten

On September 7th, the Fairfield Glade Lions Club hosted their 35th annual golf tournament at the Heatherhurst Crag golf course. It was a gorgeous day to play golf. The FG Lions Club very much appreciate the players that participated. Like the previous thirty-four tournaments, this one was successful and raised money for the FG Lions.

The FG Lions Club would like to thank this year’s tournament sponsor for the fourth straight year Eye Centers of Tennessee, Willow Café & Catering for sponsoring and providing a delicious lunch, Flowers Bakery and FG Food City for providing breakfast, and Regions Bank for the goodie bags. The FFG Lions express our sincere thanks to the generous hole sponsors and contributors.

Three flights based on handicap were created for cash prize awards. Three cash awards were distributed for each flight.

The first flight winners were John Randall, Jamie Castle, James Castle, and Authur Oakes with a round of 56. The second flight winners were Christopher Schweigel, Cael Schweigel, Fred Mundt, and Micheal Mundt with a round of 57. The third flight winners were Rudy Varju, Dave Nickel, Joe Cosentino, and Bill Crosset with a score of 63.

Gary Moore aced a hole-in-one on 130-yard hole #14. He won a year’s supply of Bridgestone golf balls.

The FG Lions use proceeds from fund raising events to support numerous local non-profits, school children, and other entities within our community. The benefactors include House of Hope, the Avalon Center, Kids on the Rise, FGRS, the Cumberland County Playhouse, and adult vision and hearing services. Our focus on children includes providing vision and hearing screening for all elementary schools in the county, the Student of the Month scholarship, and offering the opportunity for children with diabetes the opportunity to attend a two- week camp specially for diabetic children. We also support the FG Fire Department and the FG Police Department in helping to purchase equipment.
