It is with deep sadness that I learned of the passing of Past International President Justice Brian Stevenson on Sunday, February 15, 2026. Though I had the privilege of meeting him only a few times since joining the Lions Club of Calgary, those brief encounters left a lasting impression on me.
When I went through the past records I found that Justice Stevenson was not only a towering figure in Lions Clubs International but also a man of remarkable humility, warmth, and grace. To have been elected International President at the 70th International Convention in Taipei in 1987 was a historic achievement, and his decades of service to Lionism stand as a testament to his unwavering commitment to Lionism.
From District Governor to International Vice President, from Chairperson of LCIF to Canada’s representative on key international committees, his leadership spanned generations. The many honors he received, including the Ambassador of Good Will Award, numerous International President’s Awards, and national recognitions such as the Alberta Centennial Medal and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Jubilee Medals, reflect not only distinction, but a lifetime dedicated to service.
Beyond his extraordinary Lions career, Justice Stevenson served Alberta and Canada with equal distinction as a respected judge, special prosecutor, and community leader. His contributions to social planning, justice, and humanitarian causes reveal a life lived in full alignment with the Lions motto: “We Serve.”
Personally, I will remember him as a dignified gentleman whose kindness and friendly presence made a new member feel welcomed. His dedication and friendship toward members of our club will never be forgotten.
On behalf of myself as a new member of the Lions Club of Calgary, I extend my deepest condolences to his family and to the entire Lions family worldwide. His legacy will continue to inspire us to serve with integrity, compassion, and commitment.
Rest in peace, dear Lion Brian. Your light will continue to guide us.
With respect and gratitude,
Lion Push
