The first Lions Club was formed in Chicago in 1917. Within a few years the Lions became an international organization.
In 1925 Helen Keller challenged the Lions to become “knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness”. Now Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization. We have 1.35 million members in more than 46,000 clubs in every corner of the globe. Lions are everywhere. We're active men and women in more than 206 countries and geographic areas.
The Bloomingdale Lions Club was organized in 1961. We have grown from a handful of all male members to a current size of 50 men and women.
Our 2022-2023 Club President, Lion Camille Carioscia, has the vision and commitment to continue the Lions Club mission to support and better our local community.
Since the club's inception we have raised and donated more than $600,000 to local and Lions supported charities. Last year we donated more than $25,000. We work on spreading our donations between sight, hearing and diabetes causes as well as social service agencies and local community organizations. In the simplest terms, our mission is to raise money in order to give it away to non-profits that rely on organizations like ours.
