BLC VISITS LALLO CAGAYAN (October 2011)
The Baggao Lions Club joined the different sectors of Baggao in visiting Lallo Cagayan, after being invited by the first district Board Member Olive Pascual, as they share to the Baggaoenos their best practices in solid waste management.
10 Lions who joined this activity Lallo officials warmly welcomed us with a program followed by visitation of their landfill where we were asked to plant a tree. The Baggao Lions planted a tree in a certain area where it was promised by the Board Member to be a Lions Park in the future. We visited 2 schools, the first showed us how they encourage children to help segregate waste, targeting zero waste in the future (each child were given a booklet as a record of their collected and segregated waste, to be replaced with items quarterly). The second school showed us many projects that were made by recycled materials.
Our visit ended with signing a pact between Baggao and Lallo by all the participants. Each participants were given a "bayong" to replace use of plastic bags.
Another reason of our club was to make Lallo aware that a Lions Club exists in Baggao. We encouraged the Board Member, one school supervisor and their Municipal treasurer to pool possible members so we could create a club in their area sharing a common mission like all the other Lions Clubs worldwide.
MUNICIPAL-WIDE TREE PLANTING ACTIVITY (September 2011)
The BAGGAO LIONS CLUB joined hand in hand with the Religious sector of Baggao, the entire LGU of Baggao, the academe and other non governmental sectors in planting trees with the hope of preserving and conserving our forest reserves in the Municipality. Five thousand (5000) seedlings were approved/released by the DENR / CENRO for this activity.
The event was initiated in the morning with a parade/motorcade at 7AM followed by ecumenical services then lecture/symposium on the importance of our ecosystem. Culminating activity will be the tree planting at the designated areas in Baggao after lunchtime.
However, due to the heavy rains that happened after the ecumenical services, the actual tree planting was postponed. Several postponements happened thereafter due to unfriendly weather conditions. Different sectors planted their own trees at different dates, mostly in the Baggao landfill.
The actual Tree Planting of the Baggao Lions Club finally happened on October 16, 2011, with the assistance of some members of the Baggao Basketball Club and the residents of Masical Baggao who provided the tree guards. (The CENRO of Alcala again gave us a total of 600 seedlings of Mahogany tree). Only 450 seedlings were planted because of the sudden downpour again. We planted the seedlings along the highway, hopeful to plant again very soon in our dream Nursery as already promised by the CENRO.
A Memorandum of Agreement will be signed between the Baggao Lions and residents / Barangay officials of Baggao, to ensure that the trees we planted will be taken cared of.
