Our Motto - "We Serve"

Brookfield Lions Support Brookfield Lion Mark Lyon

for International Director

Lion Mark has served our International Association of Lions Clubs in many capacities for over 21 years. A proud member of the Brookfield Lions Club since 1996, Lion Mark has a great appreciation for what our local Lions Clubs do every day to improve the well-being of their communities through active service. Along his Lions journey, Lion Mark has benefited from the guidance and support of many mentors. Because of them, he more fully understands the importance of life-long learning, development of leadership skills, and fostering lasting relationships based on trust and mutual respect. To this day, Lion Mark continues to accept the challenge of serving in roles of increasing responsibility within Lionism, including at the club, District, Multiple District and New England levels.

The Brookfield Lions are proud to support Mark Lyon in his candidacy for International Director. We know that his experence and leadership skills are an asset that will benefit Lions Clubs all over the world.   We wish Mark great success at the International Convention in July 2018.

Brookfield Lions and KidSight USA

The Brookfield Lions are proud to be leading participants in Lions KidSight USA, pediatric vision screening for children aged 6 months through 6 years. In Connecticut, KidSight is a program of the Connecticut Lions Eye Research Foundation through its Lions Eye Health Program.

According to educational experts, 80% of learning is visual. If children can’t see well, it is much more difficult for them to learn efficiently.  That’s why Lions KidSight USA was established.

Using a sophisticated camera, KidSight can identify six eye problems which often afflict young people. Vision problems undetected by the age of 7 can become permanent. The WelchAllyn SPOT camera will identify:

  • Astigmatism: irregularly shaped corneas or lenses
  • Myopia: nearsightedness
  • Hyperopia: farsightedness
  • Strabismus: misalignment of the eyes
  • Anisometropia: unequal refractive power
  • Anisocoria: pupil size anomalies

During the 2016-2017 school year, the Brookfield Lions conducted vision screenings at 19 venues (mostly preschools and elementary schools) for almost 1500 students.  The Lions referred about 200 to see a doctor for a complete eye checkup.  Throughout western Connecticut, Lions screened over 12,000 and referred almost 2,000.  Statewide and nationally the numbers are even larger.  That is thousands of children who have been set on a course of better vision and hopefully more academic achievement.

Lions are happy to have KidSight to help fulfill our commitment to Helen Keller to be “Soldiers in the Fight Against Darkness”.

35th Annual Charity Golf Tournament

The Brookfield Lions Club extends a huge thank you to the 68 golfers and all of the sponsors for another successful golf outing at Fairview Farm Golf Course in Harwinton, CT.   The weather was perfect, the atmosphere was fun, and all enjoyed a day of lunch, golf, dinner and raffle prizes.

Thanks also go out to the Golf Committee and all the volunteers who helped make this fundraiser a success.

The beneficiaries of this event are the Connecticut Lions Eye Research Foundation (supporting eye research projects at Yale-New Haven Hospital and the University of Connecticut Medical Center), Lions Low Vision Centers, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and related eye care, vision and health associations throughout the state. Our club also supports many organizations and groups in our local community, namely Regional Hospice, Ability Beyond, Senior Center, Youth Outreach, Drug Awareness, Community Garden and many others.

Where there's a need, there's a Lion!

Every year, the Brookfield Lions Club provides much needed goods and monetary donations to many organizations that benefit our local community.  We live and work in Brookfield and we give back to Brookfield.  We are proud to be a valuable resource to those in need.    Below is a thank you letter from the Town of Brookfield Department of Social Services, only one of many organizations to benefit from our Club's donations.
