The year 2020 has proven to be a very difficult year. The Covid-19 pandemic prevented almost everything the club does for the community.
That didn't stop us. We managed to do toy drives, food drives, coat drives, and a host of other things. See our Past Events page...
Add to that - we adopted 2 families. Donations came pouring in, and our elves shopped for what we still needed. Lions Barb Hayes, Karen Bullock, and Wendy Beares delivered ALL OF THIS on December 19, 2020. Great job, Lions! (See more photos at http://lionsclubofwestminster.org/121920_AdoptedFamilies.html)

Back in June, a young man approached the club and asked if he could help with our Toy Drive for children with Pancreatic Cancer. Dante Tapia Pujalis is a Boy Scout who is going for his Eagle Scout designation. Not only did Dante 'help' us, but he actually took it over completely, asking the club for very little help, He set up collection days with TSC in Westminster. He created all flyers and correspondence. He organized the help for the drive. He wante 1 Lion at each shift of the drive - a total of 4 Lions. And as of this writing he has collected amost 1200 toys. Dante is now sorting and sanitizing the toys. He is dividing the toys between the two hospitals that the Lions Club chose. Lions Barb Hayes and Kathy Rixham will be helping him deliver the toys.

May 29, 2020 - Like Lion Richard H. I Help to place flags on veterans graves. My group disburses boxes of flags to all 5 Legion posts in Carroll Co. The Posts either post a flag at each veterans location or hands off to a cemetery caretaker. My particular involvement included dropping off to caretakers and visiting 4 cemeteries on Friday and placing flags at Evergreen Cemetery in Finksburg on Saturday. I was not available to help on Thursday or to collect flags this week. Flags are to be collected within a week because of mowing. Salvaged flags are reused the following year to save the County. Bob Keefer is also part of my group. He and I worked side by side Fri& Sat.

From Lion Lee Miller:
On July 26th my name was drawn to select a recipient for our "Cash for Caring" program. Knowing all first responders have been underpaid/unappreciated unsung heroes in our community, my choice was a well deserving local police officer from the Westminster Police Department. On Saturday July 28th I spoke to Sergeant Lambert and Chief Spaulding about our program and its intention. To avoid any problem with an officer receiving cash as a gift, I asked that the department use the money to reward the most deserving officer of the day. They were both elated to receive the gift and said they greatly appreciate what the Westminster Lions club has done and continues to do. I told them both that the club looks forward to working with the City of Westminster at the Fallfest in September and to consider joining our club sometime in the future. The attached picture shows Sergeant Lambert receiving the gift card and cash at the local police station.
Thank you, to our own "Cash for Caring" committee and fellow Lions for permitting me to participate it the program. It was most rewarding.
