This is a list of some of our previous service events.

April 2019

Dress to Impress

Dress to Impress was held on April 2nd and 3rd to offer FREE professional and casual business attire to students in the Student Center on the Sugar Grove Campus.

Clothing donations for the event were received by Lions Club members and Waubonsee faculty and staff.

Empty Bowls

Waubonsee Lions hosted Empty Bowls on April 24th in the Student Center lobby on the Sugar Grove Campus. The project was to raise proceeds towards the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry and on-campus food insecurity intiatives. Buyers were encouraged to offer additional support by bringing in canned goods.

Waubonsee Ceramics club and Ceramics department lent a crafty hand once again this year by making ceramic bowls for the event.

We raised $806 from the bowls, plus $310 on the silent auction.  We fortunately ran out of soup almost exactly at the same time that we sold the last bowl.  It was a very successful event!

January 2019

At the women's and men's basketball games n the Erickson Hall gymnasium on the Sugar Grove campus, Waubonsee Lions was holding a table for food or cash donations. Food donations benefited the Between Friends Food Pantry in Sugar Grove.

December 2018

On December 6th, Waubonsee Lions helped packed food donations for the Northern Illinois Food Bank in December for Feed My Starving Children. This was our third year supporting the organization.

During our session, we packed approximately 2,445 meals for the following organizations:

For all of the groups who attended that night, 32,400 meals were packed!

October 2018

On October 14th, Waubonsee Lions Club members participated in the Lions Club Candy Days fundraiser outside the  Sugar Grove Jewel-Osco. Visitors who donated received candy mints!

The fundraiser was a huge success raising almost $300 in just two hours!

September 2018

In an effort to prepare students for the fall Career Fair held on September 26 Waubonsee Community College Lions Club sponsored a Dress to Impress event at the Aurora Downtown Campus on September 18 and 19. Students shopped from a variety of business and business casual clothing for FREE!

Clothing donations for the event were received by Lions Club members and Waubonsee faculty and staff. Nearly 150 students were served at the event.

April 2018

Empty Bowls - Fight Hunger One Bowl at a TimeWaubonsee Lions lent support as servers and soup-makers to the Student Life Empty Bowls Project on April 26 in the Student Center lobby on the Sugar Grove campus.

This project raised hunger awareness in our community. Bowls handcrafted by and with the Ceramics Department and Ceramics Club were available to purchase donated soup. The project was a major success! More than $1200 was raised to benefit the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry.

March 2018

Waubonsee Lions partnered with Conley Outreach Community Services and Waubonsee's Business Club to sponsor a Dress to Impress event. FREE professional to business casual clothing was available for Waubonsee Community College students on March 27 and 28 in the Student Center Lobby on the Sugar Grove campus.

Clothing donations were received from Lions Club members, Waubonsee faculty and staff and Conley Outreach Community Services. The event was held one week prior to the Waubonsee Spring Career Fair. Response to the event was overwhelmingly positive!

January 2018

Lions Community Night took place on Tuesday, January 16 at Waubonsee Community College. Fans saw some action-packed basketball and cheered on the Chiefs in the Erickson Hall gymnasium on the north side of the Sugar Grove campus. The women's game and the men's game were featured.

Non-perishable food or cash donations brought to the Lions table near the main entrance and concessions stand meant waived ticket costs. Food donations benefited the Between Friends Food Pantry in Sugar Grove. 

December 2017

Waubonsee Lions partnered with the Waubonsee Community College Bookstore to collect food donations for the Northern Illinois Food Bank in November and December. This was our second year supporting this food collection. Donation boxes were at various locations on all four campuses. A total of 746 pounds of food was collected (198 more pounds than 2016!).

Several Waubonsee Lions took part in a service event to fight hunger by packing nutritious meals on December 4 at Feed My Starving Children in Aurora, IL.

Waubonsee Lions Club made this donation of winter gear (pictured left). The clothes, shoes, a backpack and other items fulfilled a local 9 year old girl's wishlist from the Salvation Army Adopt a Child angel tree coordinated by Waubonsee Student Life. This was our first year adopting a child from the angel tree for the holiday season.



 



Ongoing

Waubonsee Lions have partnered with the Between Friends Food Pantry in Sugar Grove to volunteer once per month with food distribution. We are looking for one or two volunteers to sign up to volunteer each month on the 4th Thursday from 5 - 7 p.m.

Each month, Waubonsee Lions should submit their service hours (for any service project) by the 29th of the month. To submit, contact Mary Edith at mbutler@waubonsee.edu. We use this information to submit our service hours to International Headquarters and showcase all the great work we are able to do each month!

As we look for ways to support our community, we are eager to partner with others to provide funds for various needs. When you donate to the Lions, you are giving back to the community. Donations are accepted via PayPal or by check.
