The Walworth Lions Club was chartered in May, 1972 with 33 members and 1 transfer. Our sponsoring club was the Penfield Lions Club. Over the years we have had over 100 members. Currently we have about 40 members.
Walworth Lions Club is a club without geographic boundaries. We do work in Ontario, Williamson, Marion, Macedon and Rochester. We spend money on eyeglasses and eye exams, guide dog schools, environmental cleanup day, disaster relief, food pantries, senior citizens dinners, and other causes. We raise money through our efforts in the Festival in the Park, tent rentals, the annual pasta dinner, breakfast with santa, and other events.
Our involvement in Rochester is with the Eastern Service Workers Association. The Eastern Service Workers are mostly families working in service jobs. Many are without healthcare and other services that we take for granted. Through the ESWA and supporting organizations, they receive health care, legal assistance, help with managing money, food and clothing. Walworth Lions provide potatoes to members of the Eastern Service Workers for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner baskets. Walworth Lions distribute about 2 tons of potatoes each year. We work at the annual Children’s Christmas party for the Eastern Service Workers. Deb Germain plays the piano for caroling and all are fed and given gifts.
In the 70s the Walworth Lions Club met at the Walworth Gun Club; Bonnie Kowalski was our chef. Over the years we have met at Ontario Center Hotel, DeGravio’s, Blue Heron Country Club, Zion United Methodist Church, Log Cabin Restaurant, Carey Lake Restaurant, and now in the Lodge at Ginegaw Park.
